10/30/16 In the poem, Child of the Americas, Aurora Levins Morales speaks of how she is from a mixed heritage. While speaking of where she is from, she describes herself as I was born at the crossroads and I am whole (Aufses et.al, 355). This displays how she can not be described by one term. She describes how she is proud of every ethnicity that is in her blood. She is whole because she embraces every part of who she is. In the end, embracing every part of yourself makes your life whole. This message relates to many other units the class has read. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke out against discrimination and not thinking of everyone as equals, For there is the more excellent way of love and nonviolent protest (Aufses et.al, 289). He protested in a nonviolent way which was very effective. His main message was to value every part of the community, not just white people. In the end, Kings message was just a modified version of the statement to value every part of who you are. This idea illustrates that the community in America is very diverse. The only people who can truly be all American are from Native American descent. This country can be described as a whole because it incorporates every idea that is brought in by the people who immigrate here. In the end, the community in America is very dependent on the incorporation of every ethnicity that resides within its boundaries.
