Ramboll Telecom
engaged in international codes and standards---

IASS Working Group Ramboll Telecom have through the years always been
for Masts and Towers heavily involved in international committees for masts
and towers.
Hence IASS have been chaired by Ramboll Telecom
key designers since the beginning and we have deeply
involved with the creation of the Eurocode 3: Part 3-
1, Towers and Masts.
Ramboll Telecom will continue this work to secure our
position as a leading design house of masts and
•IASS recommendations for guyed masts towers, to the benefit of our costumers.
• Eurocode 3: Part 3-1, Towers and masts
• ASCE: “Report on the Dynamic Response of
Lattice Towers.”
• ISO standard: “Atmospheric icing on

key issues of masts and towers---

Designing masts and towers is not only about

the tower itself.
Ramboll Telecom always focus on the total site
cost – what good is a cheap tower if the total
site cost is tripled because of a poorly designed
tower?
By focusing on the following items we ensure
that the total site cost is minimized:
9 High quality
9 Optimised for the actual need
9 Low weight
9 Simplicity
9 Easy transport
9 Easy assembly
9 Long durability
9 Low maintenance cost
10
Optimising of Towers and Masts ---

• Triangular cross section gives less wind

drag than square cross section
• Circular profiles gives less wind drag than
flat sided profiles.
• Tubes have the best bearing capacity for
the smallest steel area
• The buckling capacity of tubes is higher
than for angular profiles with the same
area of the cross section since the radius
of inertia is higher
• Tubes are more expensive per kilo
than other profiles (as round bars,
angles).
• Bolted joints in tubes are normally
difficult to design without welding.

joints attractive

the Ramboll masts – foundations---

– Pinned mast base foundation

– Not sensitive to settlements
– Prefabricated foundations
– Only very little civil works
– No casting after erection

The Sections of Ramboll Towers---

A typical 6m section of a Ramboll tower consists of only 2

different elements: 1 leg and 1 bracing. In total the section
consists of 3 identical legs and 9 identical bracings.
Characteristics of the sections:
– Legs and diagonals are tubes
– Low weight
– Easy transport
– Very few elements and joints
– Very few different elements
– Fast and easy assembly and erection (a 60m tower is erected in 4
days by hand)
– Each bracing is fastened by 1 bolt in each end
– The section – and thus the tower – cannot be assembled incorrectly

The Ramboll Towers Foundation---

Ramboll have developed what we call a Cast-in Part

(CiP) that eliminates the problems with corrosion of
foundation bolts. Also the design eliminates the need
for templates and thereby removes the associated
logistical problems.
The CiP is supplied along with the tower and is cast in
the curing RCC during the foundation works. Once
the RCC is cured the tower is ready for erection.
The tower design and the innovative foundation
design reduces the RCC volumes:
for a 40m tower the foundation volume is approx.
16m3 depending soil conditions and client
requirements
Characteristics of the foundations:
– No separate template for cast-in
– Easy logistics
– No casting of grout after erection
23
Ramboll Telecom
the fabrication of towers---

The fabrication of the masts and towers is done by selected

quality factories, which are developed and trained by Ramboll.

Ramboll will select and develop new factories to fulfill the

requirements from the customers.

The production is according to National and/or International

Standards with a quality plan defined by Ramboll.

Rambolls production experts are supervising the production

and following the complete documentation. All partners are
screened and fulfilling the Ramboll Code of Conduct.
