Clinic Public Health Nurse II

Description: The Henderson County Department of Public Health is accepting applications for
one clinic Public Health Nurse Position. The employee in this position provides professional
nursing services for clients presenting to the health department for clinic services. Clients are
primarily indigent and medically underserved and frequently present with multiple health
problems and socio-economic issues requiring complex nursing assessment, planning,
intervention and evaluation. Major responsibilities of the Public Health Nurse include managing
work flow of assigned area or team, delegating tasks to assigned clinic staff, providing nursing
assessment, education and referral to services, and managing assigned programs. The PHN II is
responsible for direct patient care which includes intake and exit interviews, client counseling
and teaching, triage, carrying out provider orders and assisting with procedures. This position is
supervised by Public Health Nurse Supervisor and in part by the Clinic Lead Nurse. Employee
must be able to attend work regularly. Work week is currently 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM on Monday
and 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday through Friday with some extended hours for special events
and/or monthly nurse meetings. Spanish language skills desirable but not required.
Required Minimum Training: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in
Nursing which includes a public health rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience;
or Masters in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year of
professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and two
years of professional nursing experience including one year of Public Health Nursing experience;
or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with education as stated
above is necessary to be fully qualified.
