Asthma

SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of asthma may include wheezing, chest tightness or pain, shortness of breath,
and cough. Symptoms of an asthma attack may include blue lips, difficulty speaking,
confusion, extreme difficulty breathing, sweating, and anxiety.
OVERVIEW
Asthma is a lung condition that causes airways to swell and become inflamed. Asthma
makes it hard to breathe. Some people may have minor symptoms, but others may have
severe symptoms that interfere with daily life. Having severe asthma may put you at risk for
a life-threatening asthma attack. Symptoms of an asthma attack include wheezing, chest
tightness, coughing, and shortness of breath. Doctors don't know exactly what causes
asthma, but genetic and environmental factors may play a role. Triggers such as smoking,
air pollution, allergies, exercise, stress, GERD, and colds can bring on asthma attacks.
Asthma is a lifelong condition that can be managed but not cured. Avoiding asthma triggers
and taking medication help most people avoid attacks and keep symptoms under control.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for asthma includes an asthma action plan that has in writing when to take certain
medications based on your symptoms. Medications include both those for long-term control
and for quick relief:
1. Long-term control medications include inhaled corticosteroids, leukotriene modifiers,
long-acting beta agonists, combination inhalers, omalizumab (Xolair).
2. Quick-relief or rescue medications include short-acting bronchodilators and oral
corticosteroids.
HOME TREATMENT
1. The juice of one clove of garlic with a tsp of honey should be taken twice a day.
2. 1/2 a tsp of hing and 50ml of sesame oil and a pinch of camphor are mixed and
applied on the chest to cure the congestion.
3. A teaspoon fulls each of green ginger, betal and garlic juice are mixed and one tsp of
it can be taken thrice a day.
4. Equal portion of tulsi juice and honey is also a good remedy.
5. Onion juice is also helpful.

Anaemia
SYMPTOMS
Anemia can cause fatigue, pale skin, weakness, dizziness, headache, chest pain, shortness
of breath, and unusual food cravings.
OVERVIEW
Anemia is a condition in which the body doesn't have enough red blood cells to carry oxygen
to the tissues. Anemia can cause fatigue, pale skin, weakness, dizziness, headache, chest
pain, and shortness of breath. There are many types of anemia and many causes, including
blood loss and vitamin deficiencies. Pregnancy, chronic diseases, cancer, and autoimmune
disorders can also cause anemia. Depending on the type of anemia you have, there are
several different treatments.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
The treatment for anemia depends on what's causing the anemia. Iron-deficiency anemia
and vitamin-deficiency anemia are usually treated with iron and vitamin supplements and
changes in the diet. You may need blood transfusions, surgery, or medications for other
types of anemia.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Adjusting a well balanced and nutritious diet is a good remedy.
2. Meat especially kidney and liver should be included in diet.
3. Green vegetables and dairy products need to be taken.

Backache
SYMPTOMS
Spinal fractures can cause sudden, severe back pain, tingling, numbness, weakness, and
loss of bowel or bladder control. If you have a spinal cord injury, you may lose feeling in your
legs, arms, and other parts of your body. Compression fractures due to osteoporosis may
have no symptoms at first. Pain may develop gradually and make it hard to move. Over time
several vertebrae may collapse, causing a stooped posture called a dowager's hump.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for a fractured spine may include:
1. Rest
2. Pain medication
3. Muscle relaxants
4. Physical therapy
5. Bracing and casts
6. Calcium supplements and medications to help build bone
7. Surgery to stabilize the fracture
8. Kyphoplasty or vertebroplasty, where a type of cement is injected into a collapsed
vertebra
HOME TREATMENT
1. Limejuice serves as an excellent home remedy for backache. Squeeze the juice of 1
lemon and add common salt in it. Drink it two times in a day. It will act as a great
back pain reliever.
2. Applying garlic oil on the back gives immense relief from back pain. Take about 10
small garlic pieces and fry them in oil on a low flame. You can either use sesame oil,
coconut oil or mustard oil. Fry till the garlic cloves turn light brown. Let the oil
prepared from garlic cool completely. Thereafter apply it on the back and keep it for
about three hours. In a couple of days, you'll feel its magical effects.

Boils
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of burns can include pain, swelling, skin changes (may be red, pink, white, or
leathery or charred-looking), blisters, oozing, dehydration, and shock.
OVERVIEW
Burns caused by heat are called thermal burns. Hot metals, scalding liquids, steam, and fire
cause thermal burns. If you are burned, you may have pain, swelling, and blistering. In
severe cases, you may go into shock or develop a serious infection or other complications. A
deep or extensive burn or a burn on a critical area such as your face or hands is a medical
emergency and usually requires hospital care. Most minor burns can be treated at home.
Scalding causes most burns in children, while open flames cause most burns in adults.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for a burn may include:
1. Wound care, including debridement (cutting away blisters or dead tissue)
2. Pain medication
3. Elevating the area above the heart
4. Antibiotics if an infection develops
5. Intravenous fluids and electrolytes for dehydration or shock
6. Skin graft -- applying a patch of healthy skin to help burned skin heal or to replace
burned skin that won't heal
7. Physical and occupational therapy to help with mobility problems caused by scarring
8. Oral or intravenous nutritional supplements
9. Surgery for eschars, thickened skin surfaces that can tighten and cut off blood supply
or impair breathing
10. Cosmetic surgery
HOME TREATMENT
1. Dry ginger and asafoetida paste can be applied over the boil twice a day.
2. Turmeric powder mixed with tulsi juice can be applied and also taken internally.
3. The paste of mustard seed is applied for earlier results.
4. A warmed betal leaf coated with castor oil should be spread over the infected area
thrice a day.

Bronchitis
SYMPTOMS
Bronchitis symptoms include cough, dark or yellow mucus, bloody mucus, wheezing, chest
pain, and shortness of breath.
OVERVIEW
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes, the large airways leading from the throat
into the lungs. This common condition causes a cough that produces mucus. Bronchitis
usually comes and goes within a few days. Cold viruses are the most common cause of
bronchitis, but it can also be caused by bacteria. Some people, usually smokers, develop
chronic bronchitis, which never goes away completely.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
For a simple case of bronchitis, treatment may include:
1. Rest
2. Drinking plenty of fluids
3. Breathing in warm, moist air
4. Over-the-counter pain relievers and fever reducers
5. Medications to help reduce coughing and open your airways
HOME TREATMENT
1. The juice of ginger mixed with honey taken three times a day is very effective
2. The decoction of tulsi, ginger and black pepper in same ratio taken thrice a day.

Burning Urine
SYMPTOMS
UTI symptoms include pain and burning during urination, a frequent and intense urge to
urinate, difficulty urinating, cloudy or bloody urine, pelvic pain or pressure above the pubic
bone, and side or back pain below the ribs, often on one side. A severe UTI or kidney
infection can cause a low-grade fever.
OVERVIEW
Urinary tract infections are common, especially among women. UTIs occur when bacteria in
the digestive tract and around the anus get into the urethra, the tube that carries urine from
the bladder. There the bacteria can cause an infection in the urethra, the bladder, or both. If
not treated, UTIs can cause painful and dangerous kidney infections. UTIs usually are easy
to detect, but some have no symptoms. If a UTI develops into a kidney infection, you may
notice pain in your side or back, along with chills, fever, or vomiting.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Antibiotics
2. Drinking lots of water
3. Phenazopyridine, a medication used to dull the pain in the urethra. Note that it colors
the urine bright red/orange or brown and can stain clothing. It is available over the
counter. It may help you feel better, but it can't cure the UTI.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Lemon juice can be taken.
2. Carrot juice is also helpful to control.
3. Radish juice can be taken twice daily.
4. Fresh coconut water once a day.
5. Sugarcane can also be taken.

Common Cold
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of a common cold may include throat pain and sensitivity, sneezing, runny or
stuffy nose, low-grade fever, headache, muscle aches, cough, and tiredness.
OVERVIEW
The common cold is a short-lived viral infection of the upper respiratory tract, which includes
the nose and sinuses, mouth, and throat. Symptoms may include sore throat, stuffy or runny
nose, nasal drip, headache, and slight muscle aches. Because more than 200 viruses cause
colds, and new ones develop all the time, the body can't build immunity to colds. Colds
spread easily from person to person and are the most common illness in the world. Most
colds go away within a few days and don't cause serious health problems.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Colds usually get better on their own in a few days. Antihistamines, decongestants, pain
relievers, drinking plenty of fluids, and breathing in steam may help ease symptoms.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Add 2 mgs of roasted asafetida to a glass of warm milk and drink this twice a day.
2. Add a teaspoonful of turmeric powder to milk and consume this mixture twice a day.
3. Prepare tea by adding 1 tbsp of pepper powder in a cup of milk along with a pinch of
turmeric and little sugar.
4. Take a cup of water and boil it with ginger powder till it becomes half. Add some
honey to it. Drink it at night.
5. One lemon along with a teaspoon of honey should be diluted in a glass of warm
water and taken once or twice a day.

Cough
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of whooping cough include a severe cough, runny nose, sneezing, and fever.
OVERVIEW
Whooping cough is a contagious respiratory infection that is spread from one person to
another from coughing or sneezing. It's caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, and
can be prevented by the pertussis vaccine, given in the first six months of a baby's life.
Whooping cough causes a runny nose, a mild fever, and a severe cough. Sometimes the
coughing can cause vomiting. Whooping cough can cause severe, sometimes lifethreatening, illness in babies and children. Whooping cough used to be a common childhood
illness, but the pertussis vaccine has made it much less common.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Adults and older children can usually treat the symptoms of whooping cough at home. In
some cases, your doctor may recommend antibiotics. Infants and young children may need
treatment in a hospital. Some children may need oxygen, IV fluids, and sedatives.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Grapes help a great deal in treating cold in a few days. Consume 1 cup grape juice
and also add 1-teaspoon honey to it.
2. Almonds are excellent for dry coughs. Soak about seven almonds in water and keep
them overnight. Next morning peel off the brown skin. Now grind them to form a
powder and add twenty grams each of butter and sugar and form a paste. Consume
it twice a day, once in the morning and the second time in the evening.
3. Add a pinch of grounded white pepper in one tea spoon of pure honey. Regular use
of this 2-3 times a day regularly for 4-5 days will cure cough.

Chickenpox
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of chickenpox include blistering rash, swollen lymph glands, fever and chills, loss
of appetite, headache, and sore throat.
OVERVIEW
Chickenpox is an illness caused by the varicella zoster virus. It is a classic childhood illness
that causes a red, itchy rash, fever, headache, sore throat, and body aches. The rash forms
blisters that break open and leak before they scab over. Most cases of chickenpox are mild,
but some people can have complications, including infection, pneumonia, and encephalitis.
Chickenpox is very contagious, but the chickenpox vaccine has reduced greatly the number
of cases of chickenpox.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
In most people, chickenpox usually clears up in about five to seven days without any
treatment. If you are at risk for complications with chickenpox, your doctor may give you an
antiviral medication to help reduce your symptoms.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Oatmeal bath is considered to be the most effective home remedies for chicken pox.
2. Pure honey smeared on the scabs helps in clearing up scars.
3. Mix 1/2 cup of brown vinegar in warm water and take bath. This also helps is healing
the scars.
4. Take a lukewarm bath with neem leaves to prevent itching.

Cholesterol
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of cholesterol emboli include purple-colored spots on skin, purple-colored
toes, kidney failure, fever, weight loss, gangrene, confusion, and abdominal pain.
OVERVIEW
Cholesterol emboli are pieces of cholesterol that break off from plaque in the arteries and
block the flow of blood to the organs or skin. This can cause the tissue in the organs or skin
to die. Cholesterol emboli are a medical emergency and need immediate treatment. They
most often happen after someone with heart disease has had a procedure such as an
angioplasty or angiography on the arteries around the heart, or has taken blood thinners.
Cholesterol emboli can cause purple-colored spots on skin, purple-colored toes, kidney
failure, fever, weight loss, gangrene, confusion, and abdominal pain.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for cholesterol emboli may include:
1. Surgery
2. Dialysis
HOME TREATMENT
1. In 1 glass of water, add 2 tbsps of coriander seeds and bring to a boil. Let the
decoction cool for some time and then strain. Drink this mixture two times in a day.
2. 2 cloves of Garlic empty stomach every morning, lowers cholesterol and also thins
blood, thereby reducing occurence of certain types of cardiac conditions.
3. Munch half cup of black currant.
4. 1tsp of Sesame seeds soaked overnight, to be taken in the morning on empty
stomach daily.
5. 5-6 Almonds can be munched daily. For best results, should be taken for 6 months.

Corns and Calluses

SYMPTOMS
Calluses appear on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet. They're rough, flat, and
usually painless. Corns have a small, hard center surrounded by tender, irritated skin; they
appear on the sides or tops of the toes. Both can cause dry, flaky skin.
OVERVIEW
Corns and calluses are areas of thick, hard skin on the hands and feet. They're the body's
natural defense against pressure and friction -- from wearing tight shoes or using hand tools,
for instance. Calluses are usually painless patches on the palms or on soles of the feet.
Corns are smaller and painful; they show up on the top or sides of the toes. While harmless,
you can treat corns or calluses if they're bothering you.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
If you have diabetes or a condition that affects circulation or increases the risk of infection,
talk to your doctor before treating a callus or corn.
1. For most people, treatments include:
2. Better-fitting shoes
3. Donut-shaped foam pads to relieve pressure and pain
4. Salicylic acid lotion or pads
5. Orthopaedic inserts for your shoes
6. Having your doctor remove the corns or calluses
7. Correcting underlying problems, such as bunions
HOME TREATMENT
1. Apply castor or coconut oil on the spots regularly to make the corn soft.
2. Turmeric powder mixed in honey or neem oil should be applied.
3. Milky juice of papaya fruit is essential in removing corns.

Constipation
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of constipation include hard stools, abdominal pain and fullness, gas, and
straining to pass stools. In some cases, constipation leads to hemorrhoids, anal tears, and
rectal pain and bleeding.
OVERVIEW
Constipation is having less than three bowel movements a week. You also may have hard,
dry stools that are difficult to pass. Everyone has constipation at one time or another. It's
usually nothing to worry about. The foods you eat, how often you exercise, and other factors
affect how often you have bowel movements. Many people expect to have one bowel
movement a day, but most people aren't that regular. A normal range is anywhere from three
to 21 bowel movements a week. However, prolonged constipation can lead to hemorrhoids.
If you have constipation, understanding what causes it can help you avoid it.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Most cases of constipation can be treated with lifestyle changes. In some cases, the doctor
may recommend using laxatives for a short time.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Eat apples without removing the skin.
2. Soak one date (without seeds) overnight in half a cup of water. In the morning mash
the date with water and remove the pulp. Take one teaspoon of this water three or
four times a day.
3. Drink a solution of 1/2 tsp honey in 1/2 cup warm water 2-3 times a day to cure
constipation. Dates taken with milk also give a great relief from constipation.
4. Mixing cup of olive oil with cup of orange juice and drinking is one of the natural
remedies for constipation.
5. Carrot juice mixed with spinach juice gives immediate relief from constipation.

Dandruff
SYMPTOMS
Loose, white flakes of skin that may itch appearing on the scalp
OVERVIEW
Dandruff is a common condition that causes itching and flaking of skin on your scalp. It is a
form of seborrhea, a common skin problem. It is not contagious. Dandruff flakes are made of
dead skin that falls off and clumps together with oil from your skin and hair. Oily skin and a
yeast-like fungus on the skin are two causes of dandruff. Though dandruff can be a lifelong
condition, it is usually managed with use of a dandruff shampoo.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment may include:
1. Prescription or over-the-counter dandruff shampoos that contain tar, salicylic acid,
selenium sulfide, zinc pyrithione, or ketoconazole
2. Topical corticosteroid or antifungal medication to treat the scalp
3. Steroid preparations in oil to treat the scalp
4. Steroid-containing shampoo
HOME TREATMENT
1. Apply a paste of two egg whites mixed with fresh juice of one lime and leave for half
an hour. Then wash the hair with neem soap. It control dandruff and give relief to
itchy scalp.
2. Take combination of olive oil and ginger root on the head. It will reduce the dandruff
and also nourishes the hair at the roots.
3. Obtain 1-2 teaspoon of freshly prepared lemon juice and rinse over the scalp and
wash it away. It not only makes the hair shiny but also prevents it from dandruff and
lice.
4. Take a small quantity of curd for fermentation for 2-3 days. Apply this curd to the
scalp and hair. Dry it for 1 hour and wash it off.

Diabetes
SYMPTOMS
Diabetes symptoms include fatigue, increased appetite, slow-healing or frequent infections,
excess urination and thirst, erectile dysfunction, and blurry vision.
OVERVIEW
Diabetes occurs when the body does not make enough insulin or does not use it as it
should. When we eat food, our body breaks down the sugars and starches into glucose,
which our cells need for energy. Insulin moves glucose from the blood to the cells. If there is
not enough insulin, or if cells do not respond to the insulin, glucose can build up in the blood,
which can cause complications, organ damage, and coma.
Being overweight increases your risk for type 2 diabetes, but not everyone who is overweight
will develop the disease. Type 2 diabetes also affects people who are not overweight. Eating
too much sugar won't cause diabetes, although a diet high in fat and calories will lead to
weight gain.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Diet
2. Exercise
3. Weight loss if needed
4. Oral medications
5. Insulin
HOME TREATMENT
1. Boil 15 fresh Mango leaves in 1 glass of water. Leave overnight. Filter this water and
drink first thing in the morning.
2. Add 3-table spoon of cinnamon to 1 litre of boiling water. Simmer for 20 minutes in a
low flame, and then strain the mixture. Drink this mixture daily to cure diabetes.
3. Eat garlic regularly as it regulates sugar level.
4. Prepare a mixture by adding equal quantities of turmeric powder and dried
gooseberry powder with honey or drink equal quantities of gooseberry juice and fresh
turmeric juice in an empty stomach daily.

Dehydration
SYMPTOMS
Fatigue, thirst, dry or sticky mouth; weakness; dizziness on standing, collapse; dark,
concentrated urine; nausea; loss of skin elasticity; sunken eyes; decreased urine output;
confusion; lethargy
OVERVIEW
Dehydration happens when your body loses more water than it takes in. You naturally lose
water every day, though urine, sweat, and even breathing. Normally, the water in what you
drink and eat makes up for the fluid you've lost. Dehydration becomes a problem when the
loss becomes excessive from vomiting or diarrhea, for example -- and you can't get
enough fluid to replace it. Or it can happen because of excessive sweating from working out
on a hot day without adequate access to water. Not getting enough fluid can cause low blood
pressure, weakness, dizziness, fatigue, and even nausea. The larger the deficit of fluid, the
greater the risk is for serious complications. Dehydration can lead to such problems as
kidney failure, confusion, coma, or shock.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for dehydration depends on the age of the person and how severe the
dehydration is. The primary treatment is to replace the fluids that have been lost. With mild
to moderate dehydration that often can be done by drinking more fluids. If the case is
severe, it may be necessary to give IV fluids. If dehydration is the result of an illness, the
doctor will also treat the illness or adjust medications to control the symptoms and reduce
the amount of fluid that is being lost.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Drink lot of non alcoholic drink.
2. Coconut water, barley water, glucose and sugarcane juice are the best.
3. Oral rehydrating solutions can be taken.

Depression
SYMPTOMS
Depression symptoms include down or depressed mood, anhedonia (lack of enjoyment in
previously enjoyed activities), hopelessness, anxiety, nervousness, insomnia, frustration,
anger or irritability, decreased or increased appetite, lack of motivation, trouble sleeping or
excess sleeping, and suicidal thoughts.
OVERVIEW
Depression is a painful sadness or down mood that interferes with daily life. Many people
feel down for short periods, but depression lasts a long time and may include anxiety,
insomnia, and other symptoms. Life events such as the death of a loved one can trigger
depression. The illness can run in families, but people with no family history also become
depressed. Often, there is no clear cause. Depression is a common but serious illness that
usually doesn't go away without treatment. Counseling and/or antidepressant medication
can treat depression in most people.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Antidepressant medication
2. Counseling
3. Electroconvulsive therapy for severe depression and if antidepressants don't work.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Drink apple juice daily. It is an effective nerve tonic and recharges the nerves with
new energy and life.
2. Prepare a tea by boiling 1 cup of water with powder of 2 green cardamoms seeds.
Add sugar and drink this 2 times a day.
3. Add a handful of fresh Rose petals to a cup of boiling water. Add sugar and drink it to
avoid depression and to relax your mind.
4. Asparagus Racemosus powder mixed with milk is an effective herbal remedy for
depression.

Dry Skin
SYMPTOMS
Scaly, rough, itchy, flaky, and cracked skin, as well as chapped and cracked lips
Dry Skin OVERVIEW
Dry skin can happen to anyone, especially in dry climates or in winter when humidity is low.
Skin naturally becomes drier with age. We also lose the natural oil in our skin when we take
hot showers or baths, or immerse our hands in water a lot. Severely dry skin becomes red,
raw, and cracked. Moisturizing your skin regularly with lotions and creams usually repairs dry
skin. If it doesn't, see a dermatologist.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments for dry skin include:
1. Petrolatum- or lanolin-based moisturizer applied several times a day; moisturizers
with lactic acid or urea may help very dry skin.
2. Prescription cream such as a corticosteroid or an immune modulator to calm
itchiness and redness
HOME TREATMENT
1. Mash half a ripe banana, add a teaspoon of honey and make a paste. Apply on your
face. Once it dries, wash with cold water and pat dry.
2. Just before boiling milk, remove two tablespoons. Massage it lightly on your face in
an upward motion. Leave to dry, then wash with water and pat dry.
3. Prepare a mixture by adding 1 egg yolk, 1 teaspoon orange juice,1 teaspoon olive oil
and ,few drops of rose water, few drops of lime juice. Apply this mixture on the face
every morning 15 minutes before taking your bath.

Diarrhea
SYMPTOMS
Common symptoms of

diarrhea include diarrhea or loose stools, abdominal pain and

cramping, nausea or vomiting, low-grade fever, and chills.

OVERVIEW
Diarrhea is a common illness that occurs in international travelers. You usually get it after
eating or drinking something that has been contaminated with bacteria, a virus, or a parasite.
Infection with the bacteria enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is the most common
cause of traveler's diarrhea. It usually causes watery diarrhea and cramps, sometimes with a
low-grade fever. Fortunately, most cases of traveler's diarrhea are mild and clear up on their
own in a few days.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Most cases of traveler's diarrhea don't need any treatment. In more severe cases,
you may need to take antibiotics or other medications.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Pipal mixed with black pepper taken with milk.
2. The pulp of bel fruit can be taken daily.
3. Yoghurt with honey can be taken a couple of times a day to control dysentery.
4. Take appetising diets.

Eye Care
SYMPTOMS
Gritty sensation, pain, light sensitivity, eye redness, burning, stinging, blurred vision, feeling
like something is in the eye, eye strain.
OVERVIEW
Dry eyes occur when the eye either doesn't produce enough tears or the tears lack the right
balance of oil, water, and mucus -- the combination of components that help nourish and
lubricate the eye. The condition may cause a gritty sensation, pain, light sensitivity, burning,
and stinging. Age, certain medications, medical conditions, dry air, smoking, and hormonal
changes in women can all lead to dry eyes. If you have dry eyes most of the time, it's called
"dry eye syndrome." You can relieve dry eyes by using artificial tears or eye ointments, not
smoking, blinking more often, and using a humidifier. If these approaches don't work,
prescription eyedrops or having a procedure to block the tear ducts can effectively treat dry
eyes.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for dry eye may include:
1. Prescription eye drops
2. Plugging the tear ducts
3. Surgery to block the ducts that drain tears into the nose
4. Switching medications if a medicine you are taking is causing dry eye syndrome
HOME TREATMENT
1. Use a few drops of honey, ghee or sesame oil in the eyes.
2. Boil 2 or 3 figs and 1 tablespoon of raisins in 1 cup of milk. Drink each morning to
improve the eyesight.
3. Prepare a mixture by adding some cardamom seeds with 1 tablespoon of honey. Eat
daily.
4. Soak a cotton pad in rose water, milk or aloe vera juice and apply to closed eyes for
10-20 minutes while lying down comfortably.
5. Boil 1/2 teaspoon of fennel seeds in 1 cup of water until it has reduced to half. Cool
and use as eye drops.

Ear Ache
SYMPTOMS
Ear pain and itching, decreased hearing, feeling as though the ear is plugged, flaking skin,
and drainage from the ear
OVERVIEW
The ear canal is a place where bacteria can easily grow, especially if water is in the ear
canal. Children and teenagers who spend a lot of time at the pool in the summer are
especially prone to infection. But anyone can get it. The most common cause is bacteria
called pseudomonas. Other types of bacteria and fungi can also cause it. An acute infection
lasts less than four weeks. Chronic infections may last for more than four weeks or occur
four or more times in a year. Ear canal infections usually clear up when treated with
antibacterial drops or antibiotics. But people with diabetes or a weakened immune system
are at risk for a more severe infection called malignant otitis externa. Malignant otitis externa
can spread to other tissue, including bone at the base of the skull, and it can be lifethreatening.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment may include:
1. Using antibacterial eardrops mixed with a steroid to reduce swelling for 10 days to 14
days
2. Taking antibiotics if you also have an inner ear infection or if the infection has spread
to other tissue
3. Taking over-the-counter pain medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen
4. Using a warm towel to help relieve pain
HOME TREATMENT
1. Steam and pour few drops of warm olive oil or mustard oil directly into the affected
ear.
2. Prick a piece of garlic and drop the extracted juice from the garlic in the painful ear.
3. Fry a few onions until brown. Let it cool then strain through a fabric. Drip one drop of
the strained onion juice in the painful ear.
4. To help proper circulation of air in the ear, dip a towel in hot water, wring out the
excess water and keep the hot towel close to the ear. The moist air will help the
proper circulation of air.

Fever
SYMPTOMS
Mild dengue fever: high fever (up to 105 F), severe headache or pain behind the eyes, joint
and muscle pain, rash, mild bleeding or easy bruising Dengue hemorrhagic fever: symptoms
of mild dengue fever plus severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, trouble breathing, red
spots or patches on skin, bleeding from nose or gums, vomiting blood, purplish bruises from
bleeding under skin Dengue shock syndrome: fluids leaking outside the blood vessels,
massive bleeding (from gums, nose, urinary and gastrointestinal tract), dangerously low
blood pressure, weak pulse, blue skin and lips, sweatiness
OVERVIEW
Fever is a flu-like illness that is passed between people via bites from the Aedes mosquito.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever, a severe form of the illness, can be fatal if not treated early in a
hospital. High fever, rash, joint pain, and bleeding from the nose or gums are some
symptoms of dengue fever. There is no cure for the illness, so treatment addresses the
symptoms. People who live in or travel to tropical or subtropical areas are most likely to get
it, and most people recover. Anyone who has symptoms of dengue fever should see a
doctor. Keep in mind that other, less serious health conditions can cause the same
symptoms.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for fever may include:
1. Getting plenty of bed rest
2. Drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.
3. Taking over-the-counter acetaminophen for pain and fever Avoiding drugs containing
ibuprofen, Naproxen, or aspirin because of the risk of hemorrhage Intravenous fluids,
blood and platelet transfusion, blood pressure support (for severe dengue fever)
HOME TREATMENT
1. Mild sweating: this helps to digest the toxins. Lie on a bed covered with a blanket, for
15 to 20 minutes. Drinking a hot liquid also helps.
2. Take 10 grams (one-tablespoon) raisins and 10 grams (one tablespoon) fresh ginger.
Crush and put in 200-ml. water for one hour. Boil this decoction till the water reduces
to 50 ml. Strain and drink while warm.
3. Take a cup of fresh Apricots juice mixed with one tsp of Glucose or Honey.

Flu
SYMPTOMS
Fever, sore throat, sneezing, sinus pain, runny nose, headache, muscle aches, cough,
tiredness
OVERVIEW
The flu is a respiratory tract infection caused by the influenza virus. Flu symptoms include
fever, sore throat, runny nose, headache, cough, muscle aches, and fatigue. The flu spreads
easily from person to person. Most people recover at home with rest and over-the-counter
medications, but for some people flu can be severe and even life-threatening. Young
children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with health problems are at risk for
complications from the flu, such as pneumonia. Prescription antiviral medication can lessen
symptoms and help speed recovery. Getting a yearly flu vaccine is the best way to prevent
the flu.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. The flu usually gets better on its own in one to two weeks with rest.
2. Antihistamines, decongestants, pain relievers, drinking plenty of fluids, and inhaling
steam may help ease symptoms.
3. For people at risk for complications and those with severe symptoms, antiviral
medications such as oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or zanamivir (Relenza) may help lessen
symptoms, shorten the illness, and prevent complications if they are taken soon after
symptoms appear.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Tulsi juice mixed with honey in equal portion is a good remedy.
2. Black pepper and dry ginger tea is also effective.
3. Pure turmeric powder mixed in milk can be taken thrice daily.

Gastric
SYMPTOMS
Gastritis symptoms include upper abdominal pain and cramping; diarrhea (loose stools) with
or without blood or mucus; low-grade fever; nausea and vomiting; loss of appetite; and
black, tarry stools, which may be a sign of internal bleeding
OVERVIEW
Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining caused by alcohol, aspirin, spicy foods,
stress, excess acid, or a virus. In serious cases, the stomach lining becomes damaged.
Gastritis causes stomach upset, irritation, and pain that can last just minutes or for hours. In
some people, gastritis becomes a chronic problem.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for gastritis may include:
1. Antacids
2. Acid-suppressing medications (proton pump inhibitors)
3. Bland diet
4. Avoiding alcohol and tobacco
5. Avoiding medications that irritate the stomach, such as anti-inflammatory pain
medications
6. Antibiotics, if gastritis is caused by bacteria
HOME TREATMENT
1. Consume lime juice mixed with cider vinegar in a glass of water before meals.
2. A pinch of asafetida in buttermilk helps in releasing gas.
3. Drink tea with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
4. In a cup of warm water, mix one tablespoon of lime juice and one tablespoon of
ginger and then drink it up.
5. Boil 1 cup of water and add a slice of lemon in the water. Stir well and drink.

Goitre
SYMPTOMS
A goiter may be a small or large lump on the neck. One or both sides of the thyroid on either
side of the throat may be swollen. A large goiter may press on the windpipe and esophagus.
This can cause coughing, trouble swallowing, and hoarseness. Rarely, goiters make it
harder to breathe.
OVERVIEW
A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland. It causes a lump in the throat below the Adam's apple.
Lots of things cause goiters -- thyroid hormone levels that are too high or too low, dietary
problems, genetics, drug side effects, and different health conditions. Women and people
over age 40 are more likely to develop goiters. Goiters are common and rarely a sign of a
serious underlying problem. Treatments depend on the cause.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for a goiter depends on the cause. Treatments include:
1. Watching and waiting
2. Radioactive iodine, which will shrink the thyroid to lower hormone levels
3. Thyroid supplements, to raise hormone levels Iodine solutions
4. Surgery to remove the thyroid
HOME TREATMENT
1. Cucumber juice can be taken daily.
2. Barley water twice a day is helpful.
3. Old rice should be used once a day in food.

Hepatitis
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms may include fatigue, liver pain and tenderness, loss of appetite, tiredness, dark
urine, light-colored stools, nausea, vomiting, fever, yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice),
and diarrhea.
OVERVIEW
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that may cause fever, fatigue, yellowing of the skin
and eyes, dark urine, pale stools, liver pain, nausea, and vomiting. Many people, however,
have no symptoms. The inflammation is caused by the hepatitis B virus, one of the three
most common hepatitis viruses (the others are hepatitis A and C). The disease spreads
through blood, vaginal fluid, semen, and other body fluids of an infected person. The virus
can be passed by sharing drug needles, having sex with an infected person, and sharing
personal items such as toothbrushes or razors. A mother can pass the disease to her child at
birth. Most people who get the hepatitis B virus fight it off in six months with rest and close
monitoring by a doctor. Some people go on to develop chronic hepatitis B, a more serious
form of the disease. Treatment with antiviral medication helps prevent liver damage in
people with chronic hepatitis B. The hepatitis B vaccine offers lifelong immunity against this
infection.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Anti-nausea medications and other treatments help relieve symptoms in people with acute
hepatitis B. Your doctor may suggest avoiding certain medications that are toxic to the liver
while you are recovering. If you develop chronic hepatitis B, your doctor will monitor your
liver and determine if and when you need treatment with antiviral medications.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Drinking plenty of water is helpful.
2. Coconut water, barley water and sugarcane juice can be taken.
3. Proper hygiene care should be taken.
4. Rest is a must.
5. Boiled water can be taken.

Hair Loss
SYMPTOMS
Alopecia is marked by unusual thinning of hair or bald patches. In women, hair loss usually
occurs on the top of the head but not along the hairline.
OVERVIEW
Alopecia means hair loss. Everyone's hair thins as they age. But some women have female
pattern baldness, called androgenetic alopecia, which runs in families. Unlike male baldness,
female pattern baldness usually causes thinning on the top of the head but not complete
baldness. Other forms of alopecia can occur after a serious illness or other physical trauma
or as a result of underlying conditions such as lupus or some forms of cancer. In some
cases, hair grows back. If not, medications can slow or reverse some forms of alopecia.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Some forms of alopecia are temporary and hair grows back on its own.
2. Others involve inflammation of the hair follicles that can be treated with drugs that
suppress inflammation.
3. For some forms of alopecia, a medication called monoxidil can help slow or reverse
hair loss.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Applying Castor oil regularly helps prevent hair loss.
2. Massaging the scalp with almond oil is another remedy that has shown to stop hair
loss.
3. Grind lime seeds and black pepper in equal number in some water and apply on the
scalp regularly.
4. Massage honey mixed with egg yolk on the scalp and hair. Leave for a 1/2 hour, then
rinse.
5. Apply juice of green coriander leaves on the head.

Headache
SYMPTOMS
The most common symptoms of migraine include a dull or severe headache that may be
worse on one side of the head, and a throbbing, pulsating, or pounding in the head. Other
symptoms may include loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, sensitivity to sound or light,
chills, sweating, numbness or tingling, and increased urination.
OVERVIEW
Migraines are a common type of headache that can cause severe pain. They can last for a
few hours or a few days and may cause throbbing, sensitivity to sound or light, nausea, or
vomiting. Migraines are caused by abnormal brain activity that is triggered by certain foods,
stress, or other factors. Some people have an aura before a migraine, which can have
symptoms that include temporary vision loss, seeing stars or flashes, or a tingling in an arm
or leg. There is no cure for migraines, but medications can help reduce pain or stop
migraines from occurring
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for cluster headaches includes:
1. Medications to help prevent headaches, such as beta blockers, anticonvulsants,
antidepressants, calcium channel blockers, and corticosteroids
2. Breathing 100% oxygen at the start of a headache to lessen pain
3. Medications to relieve headache pain and shorten attacks, such as triptans, ergot
alkaloids, and others
HOME TREATMENT
1. Henna flowers can even be rubbed with a little vinegar and applied on the forehead.
2. Keep your legs in a bucket filled with hot water (with temperature 40C to 45C) for
15 minutes every night before sleeping.
3. Eat an apple with a little salt on an empty stomach everyday.
4. Make a paste of cinnamon by mixing in water and apply it all over your forehead.
5. The Juice of three or four slices of lemon should be squeezed in a cup of tea and
consumed. It gives immediate relief.

Heart Disease
SYMPTOMS
1. Chest pain or discomfort that can move to your arms, shoulder, abdomen, neck,
back, or jaw
2. Heavy pressure or squeezing in your chest
3. Pain in the upper abdomen
4. Palpitations
5. Sweating
6. Fainting
7. Nausea
8. Dizziness
9. Shortness of breath
10. A sense of doom
OVERVIEW
A heart attack happens when blood flow to the heart muscle is decreased or blocked
completely, keeping the heart from getting enough oxygen. That can damage or destroy part
of the heart muscle. Heart attacks are most often caused by the buildup of plaque in the
arteries that lead to the heart. Plaque is a sticky substance made up of cholesterol and other
substances. When a heart attack happens, it can cause chest pain or pressure, nausea,
sweating, or fainting. Sometimes, the symptoms of heart attack can last for a few days. If
you think you are having a heart attack, call 911 or have someone take you to the
emergency room.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
The treatment for heart attack depends on your condition. Your treatment may include:
1. Medications such as aspirin, blood thinners, clot-busting medications, pain
medications, beta-blockers, nitroglycerin, and medications to lower cholesterol
2. Angioplasty or stenting to open up blocked arteries
3. Surgery to redirect blood flow around the blocked artery
HOME TREATMENT
1. One clove of garlic can be taken daily on empty stomach.
2. Plenty of fluids intake is a must.
3. The decoction of dry ginger powder or bark of neem tree taken daily is helpful.

Hoarse Voice
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of a strained voice include hoarseness, raspy voice, rawness, achy throat,
difficulty talking, a deeper voice, and not being able to hit higher notes when singing. If
caused by a cold or flu, other symptoms may occur, including cough, fever, sore throat, and
swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
OVERVIEW
Strained vocal cords occur when a person talks, sings, or shouts too loudly or too long, or
sings without proper technique. Cold or flu viruses, laryngitis, heavy alcohol use, smoking,
coughing, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), and allergies also can irritate vocal cords and
cause loss of voice. More serious causes can include thyroid problems, trauma, and cancer.
A strained voice causes hoarseness, raspiness, rawness, an achy throat, difficulty talking, or
not being able to hit higher notes when singing. Vocal strain can happen to anyone, but
smokers and people who use their voice a lot every day such as public speakers, singers,
lawyers, teachers, and sales people are at greater risk for vocal strain. A strained voice
usually heals on its own with self-care, such as not smoking, drinking plenty of fluids, resting
your voice, breathing in humid air, and practicing good vocal techniques when talking or
singing.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for a strained voice may include:
1. Resting the voice
2. Not smoking and avoiding secondhand smoke
3. Avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine
4. Breathing in humid air
5. Drinking plenty of fluids
6. Speech or voice training
7. Medication for gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) if you have GERD
HOME TREATMENT
1. Steam inhalation of eucalyptus or turmeric in boiling water.
2. Black pepper powder added to warm milk can be taken twice a day.
3. Tulsi juice and honey can be taken thrice a day.

High Blood Pressure

SYMPTOMS
Most people who have high blood pressure don't have any symptoms. You can have it for
years and not know it. A severe type of high blood pressure, called hypertensive crisis,
occurs when blood pressure is higher than 180 systolic or 110 diastolic. It can cause severe
headaches, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, and extreme anxiety. A hypertensive crisis
requires immediate medical attention.
OVERVIEW
High blood pressure is a condition in which blood pressure stays above a healthy range and
puts too much force against artery walls. Blood pressure is measured by two numbers, for
example, 140/90. The top number is called systolic pressure and measures the pressure
when the heart beats. The bottom number is called diastolic pressure and measures the
pressure as the heart rests between beats. A person has high blood pressure if the top
number is 140 or higher or if the bottom number is 90 or higher. In most cases, there's no
one cause of primary high blood pressure. High blood pressure often happens with age.
Other risk factors are being overweight, having a family history, heavy drinking, lack of
exercise, poor diet, and other factors. Primary hypertension often develops over years.
Secondary hypertension is caused by an underlying condition such as kidney problems,
some medications, and tumors on the adrenal glands. Left untreated, high blood pressure
can damage the heart, arteries, and kidneys and greatly increase the risk for stroke and
heart attack. Eating a healthy, low-salt diet, getting regular exercise, quitting smoking,
staying at a healthy weight, and taking medication can lower blood pressure to a healthy
range.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
You may be able to lower blood pressure by making lifestyle changes. If those aren't
enough, your doctor will prescribe medication. The type of medication depends on your
condition and stage of high blood pressure, and can include:
1. Thiazide diuretics, or water pills, to help your body get rid of excess water
2. Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, which help relax blood vessels
3. Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which help relax blood vessels
4. Beta-blockers, which slow your heartbeat
5. Calcium-channel blockers, which relax the muscles of blood vessels

HOME TREATMENT
1. Make a juice of 25-30 curry leaves with one cup of warm water. Strain and drink first
thing in the morning.
2. Mix one tsp honey with two tsps of onion juice and one tsp cumin powder. Have it
twice a day.
3. Boil 5-6 leaves of olive in a cup of water for five minutes. Have it thrice a day.
4. Potatoes are very beneficial in the treatment of high blood pressure. Boil it with the
skin so that they absorb little salt.
5. Mix 1 tsp honey with 1 tsp ginger juice and 1 tsp cumin powder. Have twice a day.

Indigestion
SYMPTOMS
Indigestion symptoms include pain and burning in the stomach and upper abdomen, feeling
of fullness or bloating, belching, gas, and nausea.
OVERVIEW
Indigestion is pain and burning in the upper abdomen, an unpleasant feeling of fullness after
a meal, belching, and gas. Indigestion is not heartburn, although a person can have both
conditions. Eating a high-fat meal, eating too much, or eating too fast can cause symptoms.
Alcohol, NSAIDs, spicy food, stress, smoking, and caffeine can trigger indigestion. Medical
conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and stomach ulcer also can
cause indigestion. Often, there is no clear cause. Changing eating habits and avoiding foods
and medications that trigger symptoms can help prevent indigestion. Treating any underlying
cause also will relieve symptoms.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Treatment for indigestion includes:
2. Antacids
3. Acid-suppressing medications
4. Avoiding spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and fatty foods
5. Eating smaller meals
6. Eating more slowly
7. Avoiding stress
8. Not smoking
9. Avoiding NSAIDs
10. Treatment for any underlying conditions such as GERD or stomach ulcer
HOME TREATMENT
1. Lemon juice with a pinch of soda bicarbonate is helpful.
2. Ginger can also be taken before food.
3. Asafoetida mixed with ghee taken before meal is also a good remedy.

Itching
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of jock itch include itchiness in the folds between the groin and thighs, itchiness
in the anus, red and scaly rash, and changes in skin color.
OVERVIEW
Jock itch is an itchy fungal infection in the groin. The fungus thrives in areas that are hot and
moist. Sweating, friction, and tight clothing -- such as jock straps -- can help it grow. Jock itch
usually appears in the folds of skin between the thighs and the groin. It may spread to the
anus. Jock itch is contagious. It can spread from one person to another either through skin
contact or sharing clothing, towels, or sheets. Jock itch is most common in teenage boys and
men. It also appears more often in obese people. While jock itch is irritating, it's not a serious
problem.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments for jock itch include:
1. Over-the-counter anti-fungal powders and creams
2. Prescription topical treatments
3. Oral anti-fungal pills
HOME TREATMENT
1. Make a paste of baking soda with water. Apply it on the affected area.
2. Mix equal amounts of honey and cinnamon powder and apply to affected area.
3. Apply neem oil to the affected area. Or make a fresh paste of some neem leaves and
apply externally. Boil neem leaves in the hot water used for your bath.
4. Apply the paste of sandalwood and limejuice on the affected area.
5. Take a bath with a little peppermint or yellow dock to relieve itching.

Jaundice
SYMPTOMS
Yellowish skin, yellow tinge to the whites of the eyes; babies with severe jaundice may be
very tired and not eat well.
OVERVIEW
Newborn jaundice is a common and generally harmless condition. Infants can develop
jaundice within a few days of birth. A baby may have yellowish skin and eyes. A build-up of a
natural substance called bilirubin in the blood causes it. Usually, newborn jaundice doesn't
need treatment and goes away on its own. Because of a small risk of serious problems,
doctors need to observe babies with jaundice. Blood problems, infection, and other issues
can cause more severe jaundice. Newborn jaundice sometimes needs treatment to prevent
complications.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Most babies with jaundice don't need treatment. Babies with bilirubin levels that are high or
rising quickly may benefit from:
1. Increased feedings
2. Phototherapy, exposure to special blue lights that break down bilirubin
3. Transfusions, in rare severe cases
HOME TREATMENT
1. Sugarcane juice can be taken.
2. Barley water is also helpful.
3. Fresh neem juice mixed with equal quantity of honey and half a tsp of black pepper
powder taken twice daily is a good remedy.
4. To prevent pains eat garlic cloves fried in butter.
5. Carrot Juice and Apple cider vinegar are beneficial as strengthens the ligaments.

Kidney Stones
SYMPTOMS
Sudden, severe, and continuing pain on either side of the lower back that may migrate to the
groin (and testicles in men); cloudy or bloody urine; need to urinate frequently or burning
with urination; nausea, fever, chills
OVERVIEW
A kidney stone forms when excess waste in the urine crystallizes into a hard mass. If the
stone lodges in a ureter, a tube from the kidneys to the bladder, it acts like a dam, holding
back urine and causing the kidney to swell. This creates extreme pain. Some tiny stones
pass easily if you drink a lot of fluid. But larger stones may need to be broken into pieces
with shock wave lithotripsy so they can pass or be removed via cystoscopy. Fever or nausea
with a kidney stone is an emergency.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for kidney stones may include:
1. Drinking plenty of water
2. Pain medication
3. Antibiotics
4. Intravenous fluids
5. Medication for nausea or inflammation
6. Antibiotics for infection
7. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy
8. Using a uretoroscope to remove the stone
9. Surgery
10. Lifestyle changes to prevent recurrence
11. Medication to prevent recurrence
HOME TREATMENT
1. Coconut water, barley water and watermelon juice is good to take.
2. The decoction made with onion, water and sugar is also helpful.
3. Soda water is also very effective.

Malaria
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of malaria include fever, chills, headache, sweating, anemia, muscle pain, body
ache, yellow skin, vomiting, bloody stools, seizures, breathing problems, kidney failure, and
coma.
OVERVIEW
Malaria is a dangerous disease spread by mosquitoes. In rare cases, it's spread by blood
transfusions. Malaria causes severe fever, chills, headache, and anemia. Malaria is
extremely rare in the U.S., but common in warmer areas of the world, especially Africa and
South Asia. It's also found in parts of the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Central and South
America, and the Caribbean. Malaria is especially dangerous for pregnant women and their
unborn babies. Untreated, the disease can be fatal, but the majority of people who get
prompt treatment are cured. If you are traveling to a warm country, you can reduce your risk
of getting malaria by taking preventive medicine in advance.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
People who have malaria need to be hospitalized. The best medications depend on the type
of malaria. Treatments include:
1. Chloroquine and other medications to fight the infection
2. IV fluids
3. Other medications
HOME TREATMENT
1. Tulsi juice with honey (10 ml) taken four times a day is a good remedy.
2. Black tea prepared with dry ginger and black pepper is also useful.

Measles
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of measles include high fever, hacking cough, red and watery eyes, runny nose,
rash that starts at the head and spreads downward, white spots inside the cheeks, sore
throat, and muscle pain or weakness.
OVERVIEW
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that is most common in children. Globally, it is
one of the leading causes of death in children, but it is uncommon in the U.S. because of
widespread immunization. Pneumonia, blindness, and brain infection are rare but serious
complications, so vaccination is strongly recommended. Anyone who is exposed to measles
or has symptoms such as body rash and fever should see a doctor. Keep in mind that other
conditions can cause the same symptoms.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. There is no treatment for measles. But you can treat symptoms.
2. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen may relieve pain and fever symptoms. Do not give
aspirin to children or teenagers.
3. A humidifier or vaporizer may ease a cough.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Turmeric, neem, lemon and tulsi can be used externally as well as externally for the
rashes.

Mumps
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms of mumps include pain and swelling of the salivary glands under the ears on one
or both sides, face pain, muscle aches, sore throat, fever, headache. Testicular pain and
swelling can occur in men past puberty.
OVERVIEW
Mumps is a contagious viral disease that causes painful swelling of the glands that produce
saliva. The virus also causes headaches, face pain, fever, muscle aches, and sore throat.
Sometimes, mumps can cause swelling and pain of the testicles in adolescent and adult
men. While more common in children, anyone who has not been vaccinated or who has not
had mumps before can get the disease. Treatment includes pain relievers, ice packs to
relieve swelling, and rest. Children and teenagers should not take aspirin, which is
associated with a rare but serious illness called Reyes syndrome. Because the disease can
spread quickly, the CDC recommends that anyone with mumps be isolated for 5 days after
swelling begins. Most people recover fully from the mumps and are immune from it for the
rest of their lives. Because of routine vaccination, mumps now rarely occurs in the U.S.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
There is no MEDICAL TREATMENT for mumps. Self-care helps ease symptoms.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Garlic can be taken with milk.
2. Juice of ginger with honey taken thrice daily.
3. Black pepper with warm milk is also helpful.

Nose Bleeding
SYMPTOMS
Dryness and irritation inside the nose, nosebleeds
OVERVIEW
Dryness or irritation of the lining of the nose can lead to discomfort and nosebleeds. It's often
caused by dry air. Using a humidifier and applying petroleum jelly to the inside lining of the
nose can reduce dryness. If you have persistent nosebleeds, talk to your doctor.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
You can usually treat nasal irritation on your own. If your symptoms don't go away or you
have recurring nosebleeds, see your doctor. He or she will examine the lining of your nose to
see if there are any signs of abnormalities.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Should wash the face and head with cold water.
2. Icepacks can be applied on the nose.
3. Action aggravating bleeding such as sneezing should not be done.
4. Anti-hypertensives can be taken by a blood pressure patient under medical
supervision.

Obesity
SYMPTOMS
The primary symptom of obesity is having a BMI, or body mass index (a measure of body
fat), of 30 or higher.
OVERVIEW
Obesity is having too much body fat. Your doctor may use a formula called the BMI (body
mass index) to tell if you are obese. Having a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.
Obesity is a very common and serious health problem in the U.S. If you carry too much fat -especially around your waist -- you are at increased risk for many health problems, including
heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, and stroke. Obesity can also
cause depression and low self-esteem. And if you are obese, your children are very likely to
be obese. The good news is that even losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds can improve your
health. Eating fewer calories and getting more exercise can help you lose weight. For some
people, weight loss surgery may help.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for obesity includes:
1. Dietary changes to eat fewer calories
2. Getting more exercise and activity
3. Behavior change
4. Weight loss programs
5. Medication to suppress appetite
6. Bariatric or weight-loss surgery
HOME TREATMENT
1. Fresh juice of half a lemon and a tsp of honey with a glass of water taken twice daily
is helpful.
2. Regular exercise helps up to a point.
3. A well balanced and slimming diet is the best approach.

Peptic Ulcer
SYMPTOMS
Ulcer symptoms include upper abdominal pain and burning that often go away after a meal.
Other symptoms are gas, burping, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and black, tarry stools,
which are a sign of intestinal bleeding. Small ulcers may not cause any symptoms.
OVERVIEW
Peptic ulcers are sores or holes in the lining of the stomach or upper intestine (duodenum).
Most commonly, H. pylori bacteria and stomach acids have eaten through the stomach
lining. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) can also cause ulcers in some
people. Stress does not cause ulcers, but it can make them worse. While ulcers were once a
chronic condition, current treatments make ulcers much more manageable.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Antibiotics
2. Acid-suppressing medications
3. Antacids
4. Diet
5. Avoiding caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco
HOME TREATMENT
1. A very beneficial treatment of peptic ulcers is the consumption of bananas. At least
two bananas should be eaten daily with a glass of milk.
2. Eat a cup of yogurt mixed with the paste made from 10 grams of Drumstick Leaves.
3. Consume Almond Milk made from Blanched Almonds.
4. Take a piece of Jaggery and keep it in the mouth and slowly suck it to reduce the
acidity.
5. Drink coconut water 4-5 times a day. It is an effective natural treatment for acidity.

Hemorrhoids
SYMPTOMS
Hemorrhoids can cause anal pain, bleeding, and itching. They can also cause a hard lump
near the anus.
OVERVIEW
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum or anus. They can be inside the lower rectum
or on the skin around the anus. Both types of hemorrhoids can cause pain, itching, bleeding,
and irritation. The most common causes of hemorrhoids are straining during bowel
movements, constipation, and pregnancy. Most hemorrhoid symptoms usually get better
within a few days.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments include creams and suppositories to relieve symptoms, procedures to shrink or
remove hemorrhoids, and in severe cases, surgery to remove hemorrhoids.
HOME TREATMENT
1. The juice of radish is the best home remedy.
2. Butter milk with a bit of black pepper is essential.
3. Rose petals crushed with water taken in empty stomach is helpful for bleeding piles.
4. The decoction of dried ginger is very useful in piles.

Heat Exhaustion
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms include intense thirst, heavy sweating, pale, cool, and moist skin, muscle cramps,
exhaustion, high temperature over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, headache, dizziness and
confusion, nausea, fainting, fast and weak pulse, dark urine, and rapid breathing.
OVERVIEW
Heat exhaustion develops when your body can't keep itself cool. You may get it after a tough
workout in the sun. Or you may develop it gradually over days if it's hot and you're not
drinking enough fluids. Young children, older adults, and people with health conditions such
as high blood pressure or heart disease have a higher risk. Cooling down is the treatment.
Act quickly. If you don't treat heat exhaustion, you could develop heatstroke, which is more
severe and sometimes deadly.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
1. Cooling down is the key. Treatments include:
2. Getting out of the sun and heat
3. Sipping cool drinks, but not drinks with caffeine or alcohol
4. Rest
5. Cooling down in an air-conditioned room
6. A cold shower or bath
7. Icing your neck and back
8. IV fluids
HOME TREATMENT
1. Grapes and its juice can be taken daily.
2. Plenty of buttermilk should be consumed.
3. Coconut water should be taken on empty stomach.

Ring Worm
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms include ring-like sores on the skin about 2 inches across, crusting, and itching.
OVERVIEW
Ringworm is a common infection caused by dermatophytes -- microscopic fungi that live on
the surface skin. They cause itching and characteristic ring-shaped sores on the skin.
Treatment with antifungal medications usually clears up ringworm in a matter of weeks.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Topical antifungal medications are usually enough to get rid of small infections. Your doctor
may recommend a prescription-strength antifungal medication, either in topical or oral form,
for more extensive infections.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Always wear clean clothes and take bath daily.
2. Curd and pickles should be avoided.
3. Neem paste should be taken on empty stomach.

Sinusitis
SYMPTOMS
Sinusitis symptoms may include sinus pain and tenderness, facial redness and swelling over
sinuses, teeth pain, dizziness and poor balance, fatigue, eye pain, sinus congestion and
drainage (may include pus and/or bloody mucus), and temporary loss of sense of taste and
smell.
OVERVIEW
Acute sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinuses caused by infection lasting less than 4
weeks. Sinusitis often develops when swelling, inflammation, and mucus from a cold block
nasal passages. This makes it easier for bacteria to grow. Organisms can produce gas, and
when your sinuses are not draining, pressure can quickly build and cause the infection to
spread. Viruses are the most common cause of acute sinusitis, but bacteria, fungi, and
allergies may also cause it. Sinus pain and tenderness are common, but severe pain may
indicate an abscess or other complication.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments for acute sinusitis may include:
1. Flushing nasal passages with warm salt water (Neti pot) or saline nasal spray
2. Warm packs
3. Antibiotics for bacterial infections
4. Cortisone and other nasal sprays for inflammation and allergy control
5. Sinus drainage procedures
6. Oral antihistamines and/or decongestants
HOME TREATMENT
1. The fresh juice of garlic or onion with honey taken twice daily is helpful.
2. Black pepper powder mixed with warm milk is also a good remedy.
3. Steam inhalation gives a good relief.

Soar Throat
SYMPTOMS
Red throat, white patches on throat, throat pain, trouble swallowing, swollen lymph glands,
nausea, fever, chills, muscle aches, stomach ache, rash, headache
OVERVIEW
Strep throat is a throat infection caused by streptococcal bacteria. Symptoms include a red
throat, white patches on the throat, a sore throat, trouble swallowing, swollen lymph glands,
and a fever. Symptoms are often more severe than with a viral sore throat. Strep throat
occurs most often in children ages 5-15, but anyone can get it. Some children have a
reaction to the strep bacteria that causes a rash called scarlet fever. Strep throat spreads
from person to person from contact with saliva or nasal secretions. If not treated, strep throat
may lead to serious health problems such as rheumatic fever, kidney problems, middle ear
infections, meningitis, and throat abscess. Antibiotics treat strep throat and scarlet fever and
help prevent these rare but serious conditions.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Strep throat should be treated with antibiotics to shorten the disease and prevent potentially
serious complications. Antibiotics also make strep throat less contagious after 24 hours of
treatment.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Heat glass milk, add less than tsp of turmeric and sugar. Drink while warm.
2. Heat water with 2 tsp of lemon juice and 2 tsp of honey and sip.
3. Add a raw onion, 2 cloves, 4-5 mint leaves, 2-3 black peppercorns and a small
stick of cinnamon to a glass of water. Boil it thoroughly, strain and have while it is still
warm. To reduce the spicy taste, you could add 1 tsp of honey.

Stroke
SYMPTOMS
Weakness or numbness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side; confusion or trouble
speaking or understanding; trouble seeing in one or both eyes; trouble with walking, balance,
or coordination; sudden, severe headache
OVERVIEW
A stroke occurs when blood and oxygen to the brain are cut off. Nerve cells in the brain start
to die, usually within three or four minutes. This can lead to severe physical, cognitive, or
mental disabilities and death. You may suddenly have a severe headache, numbness or
weakness on one side, trouble speaking, walking, or understanding, trouble seeing, or other
symptoms. Stroke is a medical emergency and needs to be treated right away, even if
symptoms seem to go away. Medication, surgery, and rehabilitation are used to treat
strokes. It can take months or years to recover from a stroke and some people never
recover. The sooner you get treatment, the better your chances are of surviving and
recovering.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Depending on whether you have an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, treatment may include:
1. IV fluids and oxygen
2. IV clot-busting medication, which must be given within three hours of the start of
symptoms
3. Blood thinners
4. Blood clot removal via catheter
5. Carotid endarterectomy, opening some arteries to remove plaque
6. Angioplasty and stents, widening an artery with a balloon and inserting a stent to
keep it from narrowing
7. Medication to prevent seizures or lower blood pressure
8. Surgery to place a clip at the base of an aneurism or remove an abnormal blood
vessel
9. Endovascular procedure that uses a catheter to put a coil in an aneurysm to prevent
rupture
10. Rehabilitation therapy with a team of specialists

HOME TREATMENT
1. If the person is conscious lay the person down with head and shoulders slightly
raised and supported.
2. Position head on the side to allow saliva to drain from the mouth.
3. Take the patient to hospital immediately.

Heat Exposure
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of heat exposure can include dizziness, nausea, headache, weakness, a fast
heartbeat, muscle cramps, a high fever, and seizures.
OVERVIEW
Heat exposure occurs when your body is overheated, usually due to hot weather. Heat
exposure can cause dizziness, nausea, headache, weakness, a fast heartbeat, muscle
cramps, and a high fever. In severe cases, heat exposure can lead to seizures or death.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for heat exposure may include:
1. Moving into an air-conditioned building or into the shade
2. Taking a cool bath or shower
3. Drinking cold beverages, but avoiding alcohol and caffeine
4. Resting
5. Taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
6. Benzodiazepine drugs to reduce shivering or convulsions
7. IV fluids
8. Other MEDICAL TREATMENTs to treat the complications of heatstroke
HOME TREATMENT
1. Cold water should be taken at frequent intervals.
2. Apply freshly prepared sandalwood and turmeric paste to the affected area twice
daily.
3. The above said paste can be taken internally.

Tooth Ache
SYMPTOMS
Toothaches take many forms, from severe pain when you bite down to sensitivity to hot or
cold foods. Often tapping on a tooth will make the pain worse. Other symptoms of tooth or
gum problems include bleeding around a tooth, swelling of gums, or a jagged tooth.
OVERVIEW
A toothache is any pain or soreness in or around a tooth. The most common causes are
tooth decay, infection, cracked teeth, broken fillings, or an injury to the mouth or jaw. Pain
can sometimes radiate from other parts of the body, causing the symptoms of a toothache. If
a toothache persists, call your dentist. If the cause is tooth decay, quick treatment will limit
the damage to your teeth. If the cause is not related to teeth or gums, your dentist may refer
you to a physician.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment depends on the underlying cause of the toothache. Tooth decay can be removed
and the cavity filled. Loose or broken fillings can be replaced. If the pulp has been damaged,
you may need a root canal, in which the decayed pulp is removed and a new filling put in
place. When a tooth is severely decayed or damaged, it may need to be removed. If the
cause is gum disease, your doctor may give you an antibiotic and then talk to you about
treating the underlying condition.
HOME TREATMENT
1. Place 1 clove of Garlic dipped in rock salt on the affected tooth.
2. Peel and crush a clove of fresh garlic and mix it with peanut butter. Apply it to the
aching tooth and keep it there for some time.
3. Take 2-3 tablespoon of black pepper and a pinch of salt, add few drops of water and
make it into a paste. Apply the paste over the affected areas to get relief.
4. Add few drops of mustard oil to a pinch of salt and massage the tooth gums gently
with it.
5. Take two basil leaves, a grain of salt and a pinch of pepper powder and press against
the affected tooth.

Tonsillitis
SYMPTOMS
Severe or long-lasting sore throat, red tonsils with white or yellow spots, pain in the jaw or
throat, difficulty swallowing, earache, headache, fever, bad breath, fatigue, drooling, mouth
breathing, raspy voice.
OVERVIEW
Tonsillitis is painful swelling in the tonsils, lymph nodes at the back of the throat. Infections
with bacteria, such as strep throat, or viruses can make them swell. Tonsillitis is especially
common in children. Doctors once routinely treated tonsillitis with surgery to remove the
tonsils. Now, only people who have recurring infections or other complications usually need
surgery. Antibiotics can cure bacterial tonsillitis; viral tonsillitis will go away on its own.
Relieving symptoms -- with painkillers and home remedies -- can help while you fight the
infection.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments for tonsillitis include:
1. Antibiotics for bacterial infections
2. Over-the-counter painkillers, such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and
naproxen (not aspirin in children or teenagers)
3. Drinking extra fluids
4. Surgery
HOME TREATMENT
1. Swab the inflamed tonsils with the juice of garlic mixed with honey for the relief.
2. Take a glass of milk with turmeric and black pepper in it.

Warts
SYMPTOMS
Common warts are small, round or oval-shaped, rough bumps on the skin. They may have a
black dot in the center that looks like a seed. The skin may be discolored.
OVERVIEW
Common warts are harmless round skin growths. They usually appear on the backs of the
hands and the fingers, often near the nails. A very common virus, human papillomavirus, or
HPV, causes warts. Warts are more likely in areas where the skin is broken with cuts or
hangnails. Warts may spread from the fingers to the face or other parts of the body.
Common warts don't usually itch or hurt unless they're on a part of the body that gets rubbed
or irritated. While not a medical concern, common warts can be upsetting and embarrassing.
Treatment can remove the warts. Since the underlying virus can't be cured, the warts may
return. Common warts don't increase your risk of skin cancer.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatments for warts include:
1. Over-the-counter topical medications
2. Prescription topical medications
3. Freezing the wart with liquid nitrogen
4. Burning the wart or removing it with a laser
5. Immunotherapy to trigger the immune system to attack the wart
HOME TREATMENT
1. Castor oil can be applied on it to soften.
2. Papaya fruit milk can be applied.

Weight Loss
SYMPTOMS
Fatigue, muscle weakness, fainting, weak immune system, dizziness, anemia, heart and
lung problems, digestive problems, brittle hair, dry skin, thinning bones, constipation, feeling
cold, hair loss, missed menstrual periods, low blood pressure
OVERVIEW
Being underweight means weighing less than you need for good health. As a rough guide,
having a BMI (body mass index) below 18.5 means you are underweight. You can use many
online calculators to find out your BMI. Eating disorders, thyroid problems, an inadequate
diet, intense exercise, alcoholism, medications, depression, and many illnesses can cause
you to become underweight. Being underweight can lead to fatigue, muscle weakness,
fainting or dizziness, digestive problems, hair loss, dry skin, thinning bones, missed
menstrual periods, and other problems. Being severely underweight can be life threatening.
MEDICAL TREATMENT
Treatment for being underweight may include:
1. Replacing missing nutrients in the diet
2. Treating any medical condition that's causing the problem
3. Antidepressants
4. Therapy
5. Nutritional counselling
HOME TREATMENT
1. Prepare a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon powdered black pepper, 3 teaspoon lime juice,
and 1 teaspoon honey in 1 cup water. Drink this mixture for 3-4 months to lose
weight.
2. Drink a glass of lukewarm water mixed with lime juice and some honey the first thing
in the morning.
3. Spices like dry ginger, cinnamon, black pepper etc. are good for losing weight and
can be used in a number of ways.
4. Regular intake of carrot juice helps in reducing weight.
5. Regular intake of mint tea helps in reducing weight.
