Abrasive tools
Aim of the work
Practical acquaintance with marking of abrasive tools, theirs shapes, mounting, balancing, testing for
strength and dressing methods and with grinder operator work safety during operation.
Devices for the work
1. Ruler;
2. Grinders, sharpeners which are available in the laboratory;
3. Abrasive wheels 3 ones.
Order of the work
1. Research shapes of abrasive wheels using auxiliary literature. Establish shapes of three abrasive wheels,
which are given by tutor. Draw drafts of these wheels;
2. Measure by the ruler dimensions of given wheels (outer diameter, inner diameter, width, etc). Present
measured dimensions on the drafts;
3. Research marking of abrasive tools using auxiliary literature. Establish by marking following properties of
three given abrasive wheels: abrasive material, grain size of abrasives, hardness of abrasive wheel,
structure of abrasive wheel, bonding material, class of precision and maximum permissible peripheral
speed. Present results in the table 6.1;
4. Research mounting methods of abrasive wheels (on grinders and sharpeners, which are available in the
laboratory and from auxiliary literature). Draw schemes of mounting for three given abrasive wheels;
5. Research dressing methods of abrasive wheels (on grinders and sharpeners, which are available in the
laboratory and from auxiliary literature). Draw drafts and write short description;
6. Research balancing and testing for strength methods of abrasive wheels ((at grinders and sharpeners,
which are available in the laboratory and from auxiliary literature). Write short description;
7. Research means, which are used for grinder operator work safety during operation (on grinders and
sharpeners, which are available in the laboratory and from auxiliary literature). Draw drafts of safety
guards and write short description.
