1. Mock Trial

Writing: Introduce
precise claim(s),
distinguish the claim(s)
from alternate or
opposing claims, and
create an organization
that establishes clear
relationships among
claim(s), counterclaims,
reasons, and evidence.

In our mock trial, I was on the

defendant side fighting for
George. Since we only had
fifteen minutes to make a strong
claim, stating that George made
the right choice of killing his
friend Lennie, our group was
skeptical at first. We were also a
little bit disorganized. However,
we were able to get back on
track, and prevented George
from having the death penalty.
Although our mock trial was a
little iffy, I thought it was a great
learning experience. I was able to
learn more about how a mock
trial works. Additionally, I was
able to obtain more convincing
ideas and quotes of how
Georges decision was correct.
This will definitely aid me in my
time write essay.

- I want to get better at

having good
management, so it will
aid me in working
under pressure.

Before, the Of Mice and Men

Timed Write, I was at first
nervous and a little bit shaky that
I wouldnt be able to finish my
essay because of my past
experiences with writing an essay
in a required time. However, by
using my notes and by obtaining
good commentary and views
from the Mock Trial, this helped
me a lot during my essay. I was

- For my next timed

write essay, I want to
prepare the night
before by searching up
the evidence or quotes
I could use for my
essay. This will allow
me to know exactly
what I will write for
my essay, so that I
dont stress out.

2. Of Mice and Men

Timed Write

Reading: Cite strong

and thorough textual
evidence to support
analysis of what the text
says explicitly as well as
inferences drawn from
the text.
Writing: Introduce
precise claim(s),
distinguish the claim(s)

- Additionally, I think
the next time we have
a group project, I want
to participate even
more and give more
input and my thoughts
on the project.
- I also want to make
sure that I plan and
prepare the day before,
so Im ready for
projects like the mock
trial.

able to finish my essay ten

minutes before the required time.

Speaking/Listening:

The Montresor Diagnosis

presentations were proficient! By
watching each groups, I was able
to learn more views on the topic
of Montresors Diagnosis. This
helped give me a more clearer
understanding of the story.

- I want to make sure

that whenever I have a
timed write essay, I
should remember to
breathe in and out, and
stay calm. So that my
doubts and
nervousness, doesnt
impact my focus or
even affect my work.
- I should have been
even more supportive
to the presenters by
telling them what I
liked about it their
ideas.
- I should have shared
some of my groups
ideas to the presenters
giving our views on
the subject.

4. Speech Assessment

Reading: Delineate and

evaluate the argument
and specific claims in a
text, assessing whether
the reasoning is valid
and the evidence is
relevant and sufficient;
identify false statements
and fallacious
reasoning.
Speaking and Listening:
Respond thoughtfully to
diverse perspectives,
summarize points of
agreement and
disagreement, and,
when warranted, qualify
or justify their own
views and

For my group project of writing a

speech it consisted of five
members. Majority of my group
members including myself love
to write, so our speech was very
long. Since we were only given
four minutes to present our
speech, we were only able to get
through four of my members. My
fifth member was at least able to
start a few sentences of her
paragraph, until she was cut off.

- I want to make sure

that the next time I
present, I should not
only practice in front
of a mirror giving my
speech, but practice in
front of my family
members or friends.
This will help me not
get so nervous when
presenting in front of
my whole class.
- The next time we
have to write a speech
in a group or as
individuals, I have to
write less or learn how
to summarize even
more, so that if I have

understanding and make

new connections in light
of the evidence and
reasoning presented

6. TKAM Graffiti
Journal

Writing: Develop fair

arguments and counters;
give evidence; state
strengths and
weaknesses in a way
that considers the
audience

Reading: Determine a
theme or central idea of
a text and analyze in
detail its development
over the course of the
text, including how it
emerges and is shaped
and refined by specific
details; provide an
objective summary of
the text.
Writing: Develop and
strengthen writing as
needed by planning,
revising, editing,

to present it, I wont

be cut off by time
restrictions.

The day before I took my

community timed write essay, I
had made an outline that helped
me preset all the examples I
wanted to use for my essay. So
when it was time to do my timed
right, I was not at all nervous.
Instead, I felt very prepared and
set in the game to accomplish it. I
was able to finish my timed
write, just before the timer ended.

- For my next timed

write, I want to make
sure that I know the
correct citations for
my evidence/quotes,
because I had one or
two quotes, that I
believe that I had not
cite them correctly.

After doing the TKAM graffiti

journal for over a month, I felt
that I had been very proficient in
the process. During our LIT
circles, I had always been
prepared to present the topics and
examples I used in my graffiti
journals. Additionally, I had
given my share of participation
by being the group leader two
times.

- I want to work on
being more actively
present in any group
project. At times in
our LIT circles, I was
not fully present since
I was trying to work
on finishing the review
questions we had to
answer as part of the
discussion.

- For my next timed

write, I want to make
sure that I have an
even clearer
understanding of the
evidence/quotes I
used, so that I can go
into further depth in
my analysis.

- I want to work on
stepping back from the
being the leader in
group activities, so
that other people can
get an opportunity in
earning leadership

skills. For the graffiti

journals, I was kind of
like the leader since I
had always been
prepared. Due to this, I
had presented two
times.
7. TKAM Final Essay

Reading: Determine a
theme or central idea of
a text and analyze in
detail its development
over the course of the
text, including how it
emerges and is shaped
and refined by specific
details; provide an
objective summary of
the text.
Writing: Develop and
strengthen writing as
needed by planning,
revising, editing,
rewriting, or trying a
new approach, focusing
on addressing what is
most significant for a
specific purpose and
audience.

While in the process of

completing the TKAM Final
Essay, it was a little difficult.
This was because I was trying to
make it my best one since it
would be my last formal essay
before the semester ended.
Despite these struggles, I was
able to choose the prompt that I
wanted, along with strong claims,
and evidence. As a result, I
earned a passing grade for this
assignment.

- I want to making
sure that the next
times I write an essay,
I have transitions
before all the
examples I use
because this was one
of the faults I made the
TKAM Final Essay.
- I want to make sure
that when I write it is
comprehensible, so
that the audience
wont have any
difficulty trying to
understand it.
