Morning Meeting
Student Name: Divya Chohan
Grade Level: 1

School Name: Lawrenceville Elementary

Host Teachers Name: Ms. Pileggi

Guiding and/or Essential Questions:

How do we use calendars?
How do we know when to capitalize letters?
Why do we use different types of punctuations and when do we use them?
Pre-lesson Assignments and/or Student Prior Knowledge (ex. background knowledge,
possible misconceptions, prior lesson content)
Prior to this meeting, students already know how the calendar and morning meeting are
carried out everyday. They have a new person for calendar each week that leads it and the lead
teacher usually carries out morning meeting. However, I will be doing morning meeting again
due to the teacher being absent. I will try out a new morning meeting activity that many of them
might not have done before.

Learning Objectives and Assessments:

Learning Objectives
Students will identify mistakes on the
morning message, reviewing skills previously
taught on punctuation and grammar.

Assessment
Teacher will assess for the identification of
grammar mistakes, correction, and
explanation for the change depending on the
mistake.

Materials/Resources: (List materials, include any online or book references and resources)
Calendar board (already set up in classroom)
Morning meeting white board
Dry-Erase markers (6)
Yarn

Plan for set-up/distribution/cleanup of materials:

Teacher will already have the calendar and morning meeting message set up in the classroom
before students walk in. Once students are ready, they will turn around from their seats to face
the calendar as the student in charge presents it. After calendar is done, teacher will ask students
come over to the carpet to see the morning message. For doing the yarn activity, she will give out
the yarn after all the students understand the instruction.
Step by Step plan (numbered):
1. Lesson beginning: Assigned student will conduct calendar once the class is unpacked and
the pledge of allegiance has been said.
2. Teacher will greet the students once calendar is finished and have them come to the rug
for the morning meeting message. She will pick a student to read out the morning
meeting message to the class.
3. Student will pick someone else to fill in a blank or fix an incorrect grammar usage on the
board. Depending on what it is, teacher will ask them to explain what they did and why to
the class. Students will continue to pick others until the message is filled out and
corrected.
4. Once corrected, the class will read out the morning message again. She will then explain
the activity they will be doing for morning meeting. Today I have a different activity for
us to try. Its called the Spider Web. Im going to throw the ball of yarn to a friend and
say good morning to them. Then, they will pick another person to throw it to and greet
them. You can only pick someone to greet who has not been greeted before. Once
everyone has been greeted, you will throw the yarn back to greet the person who threw
the yarn to you, so remember who that was. Before we start, make sure you remember to
take out a lot of yarn before you throw it and hold onto a piece tightly so it does not get
into the web. She will throw it to a student to start off.
5. Students will engage in the activity going in the circle.
6. Ms. C will praise the students depending on the self-control during the activity. What
did you all learn from the activity? Students respond. She will ask them to elaborate on
how they are all connected. Show me with your thumb if you did not like the activity, it
was okay, or you loved the activity. Students will respond and Ms. C will observe
responses to it. Well, lets all get ready now and click into reading.
Key Questions (that you will ask):
Why do you capitalize the beginning of a sentence?
Why did you change the punctuation mark?
Why do you capitalize the F in Friday?
Timing:
Total time: 15 minutes
Greeting and reading morning message: 2 minutes
Correcting morning message: 5 minutes
Morning Meeting activity: 8 minutes
.

Transitions:
Ms, Chohan will call on the students to walk to the carpet once the calendar is completed. She
will lead the students onto the morning meeting message and help them correct the message. For
switching into reading, she will get all students to click into reading.
Classroom Management:
For classroom management, Ms, Chohan will call out Macaroni to which students will call out
And Cheese in our to redirect their attention back to her. Moreover, she will compliment
students when they are sitting quietly and being focused to let them know she appreciates it.
During the daily edit, she will also remind the students to pick somebody who has not gone up
yet to avoid the same students getting turns.
Differentiation:
For differentiation, if students are having trouble to correct a mistake on the morning meeting
message, she will help them out with hints at first to give them a clue on what needs to be fixed.
If that does not work, she will allow them to pick a friend to help them out.
