STA404 PROJECT GUIDELINES

TASKS
1. Form a group of four or five persons (maximum).
2. Obtain a secondary data set with at least two qualitative and two quantitative
variables from any sources (except the textbook used for this course).
3. Based on the dataset obtained, set up at least two research objectives.(Max=3)
4. Analyze the dataset by using any of the statistical methods that you have learned in
the class (Make sure the method used is appropriate with the research objectives
that you have determined).
5. All analyses MUST be performed by using SPSS.
6. Write a brief report (Not more than 20 pages-including appendices).
7. Attach the data set used in the study together with your report (Appendix).
REPORT
Your report should include the followings:
1. Introduction
Background of study (a brief one not more than one page)
Description of data (Source of dataset, sample size, description of variables in the
data set name of variable, type of variable, level of measurement)
Research objectives (at least two, but not more than three)
2. Methodology
Descriptive methods briefly explain the methods used to describe the profile of
respondents (frequency table/pie chart/bar chart/summary statistics - where
appropriate)
Inferential methods Briefly describe the methods used to achieve your objectives
(estimation/t-test/ANOVA/Test of independence/Correlation analysis/Regression
analysis)
3. Findings
Descriptive statistics Explain the results obtained from the descriptive analysis
Inferential statistics Explain the results obtained from the inferential analysis
4. Conclusion wrap up the whole study

PROJECT SUBMISSION
Please submit a hardcopy of the report latest by 18 Dec 2016 (last seminar). Submit
also the softcopy of the report through iclass before or after the last seminar. Late

submission will be penalized a mark deduction of 5% per day late.

GRADINGS
Your report will be graded based on the following criteria:
Explanation suitability of title, explanation on the background of study,
description of variables, objectives and discussion of findings.
Accuracy of analysis appropriate statistical methods used.
Layout of report presentation/organization of report.
