Hydrotherapy is the use of water to revitalize, maintain and restore health
therapeutically. In order to create an optimum response, the variables in hydrotherapy such as temperature, duration and extent of treatment must be manipulated with users condition. In the present project, the hydrotheraphy foot massager is integrated with a dual functional mode including an infrared and a vibration massage setting for an invigorating massage on the feet. By using the PIC18F4550 microcontroller, the prototype was programmed with two different functional mode which are the foot spa and the complimentary hydrotherapy, both designated as Mono mode and Duo mode respectively whereby they differs in terms of duration and temperature setting. The Mono mode is ideally therapeutic as it cleanses and relaxes at the same time and operated for 20 minutes at about 40C while the Duo mode which act as a complementary treatment for users with non critical general illness, operated for 30 minutes at both 40C and moderate temperature subsequently. Both modes are concurrently aided with the vibration and infrared setting throughout the treatment. Considering foot hydrotherapy massage has been proven as a safe and effective intervention, it is highly favorable to refined the therapy to a more convenient, affordable and executable method for home users and even applicable in most medical health care centers.
