Who Am I?

Summary/Purpose

The idea behind this activity is to allow female students to


become aware of the pressures they feel and how it affects their
perception of self.

Time Frame:

30 Minutes

Procedure:

1. Take group to the space where activity will take place. There
will be two places of masking tape on the floor running parallel
to each other, however, roughly 2 feet apart.
2. Go over expectations with group
- What happens in here, stays in here (privacy)
- Be respectful to self and others during the activity
- Keeping our voices to appropriate levels (level 1)
- Challenge by choice, if they feel uncomfortable they may step
out of the activity for the first part
3. Tell girls that during the first part of the activity, voice level
must be at 1 and have them line up at the line.
4. Read the following prompts, if it is true for the students they
must step up to the line for a few seconds and then return to the
start line
Walk to the line if..
- If you like the color blue
- If you like pepperoni pizza
- If you play a sport
- If you like to dance
- If you are an artist
- If you love to read
- If you can wiggle your ears
- If you love animals
- If you are a big sister
- If you have ever broken a bone
- If you have ever been made fun of
- If you have ever made someone feel bad
- If you have ever wished your hair was different
- If you have ever had a fight with your best friend
- If you have ever thought bad about the way you looked
- If you have ever said something you wish you didnt.
- If you have hugged someone today
- If you have done something you are proud of
5. Invite the students to sit down and ask some processing
questions:
- What surprised you during this activity?
- Were some of the questions hard to answer? Which ones were
difficult?
- How did it feel when you were not alone at the line?
- Who are some people you can talk to if you feel sad or hurt?
6. Hand out blank paper and tell the girls they are to draw a selfportrait include things they enjoy to do now and something
they want to do in the future. (10 minutes)
7. After they are done with the self portraits, have them share with
the group
