ABSTRACT FOR WEEK: ONE

By this week decided to start a new project which mainly deals with industrial fire alarm
system which uses temperature and smoke sensors and issues alarm to nearby people to inform
them there a potential fire or damage to property and human lives. This system can detect
smoke or fire in their early stages and give warning to the nearby peoples to leave.
This week we continue working on LPC 21xx microcontrollers also are members of the
computer family, using integrated circuits instead of electromechanical devices to implement
control functions. They are capable of storing instructions, such as sequencing, timing,
counting, arithmetic, data manipulation, and communication, to control industrial machines and
processes.
There main application is to produce controlling circuits in industries including
steel mills, paper plants, food-processing plants, chemical plants, and power plants. LPC 21xx
family microcontrollers perform a great variety of control tasks, from repetitive ON/OFF
control of simple machines to sophisticated manufacturing and process.

Loading the .hex file to LPC 21xx microcontroller

Thursday

Friday

ABSTRACT FOR WEEK:TWO

This week we summarize about LPC 21xx microcontrollers. Till know we have been doing the
programing and simulation. If the program has no error and the simulation work fine it will be
read to load to the chips.
In order to load first it has to be compile to .hex format. The following tool are
required to burn (load .hex file) to the hardware or microcontrollers.
A device called development board.
Serial port cable or USB to serial port converter cable
Burning software like flash magic or bootloader
The board is connected to pc via a serial port cable or USB to serial port cable.
To configure the hardware, we required a program called Flash Magic. Flash Magic load the
hex file to so that the hardware has the proper voltage to the board in the right pin and the data.
The data transfer to the flash memory of the microcontroller.
Once the file is transferred to the microcontroller chip removed from the board and
incorporated in to the built circuit.

ABSTRACT FOR WEEK: THREE

By this week we debug the source code and fix some bugs, improve the circuit design by
adding two LEDs which shows one for the critical state and others for the fire alarm case.
In order to exercise the programing, we continue working on the project. This system is based
on temperature sensor and smoke (MQ2) sensor. Since nature is analog; the analog value from
the sensors is converted into digital by means of Analog to Digital converter. The digital value
corresponding to temperature/smoke is stored in the embedded microcontroller.
Microcontroller monitors the temperature whenever there is raise in temperature above the
temperature we set. Microcontroller switch ON the two LEDs and the buzzer, the LCD display
at different level of temperature and similar with the smoke sensor case.
We constructed and simulate circuit in Proteus software. The programing is done in IAR
Embedded Workbench software.
