Dear colleague,
Welcome!!
Your industry peers have confirmed their attendance at Equip
Globals 6th Dredging & Land Reclamation Asia Summit in
Singapore and I hope that after reading this brochure, we will
also be meeting at the annual event.
Dredging and reclamation are integrally behind the creation
and maintenance of seaports, harbours, access channels where
global economic activities including waterborne trading, international migration, tourism, energy exploration, land recreation, coastal protection take place. Asia represents the fastest
growing centre for reclamation & dredging where total dredging
turnover has been the highest globally with many mega projects in recent years.
The growing demands for construction and maintenance of
maritime infrastructure however represent challenges throughout Dredging & Land Reclamation projects, such as how to
improve the effectiveness in management of dredged materials beneficial reuses; overcoming geotechnical & geophysical
issues and prevention of environmental risks in order to deliver
Dredging & Land Reclamation projects successfully on time and
within budget.
This year, the 6th Dredging & Land Reclamation Asia Summit
welcome you to explore this opportunity for ports, harbours
and engineering contractors to discuss and share their proven
experiences, practices and case studies in overcoming defining
challenges, enabling effective implementation, monitoring and
delivering of your Dredging and Reclamation projects.

Environmental impacts occur across any phase of dredging which cause damages not
only the dredged site but also the surrounding areas and even efficiency of subsequent
phases. Not only does dredging operation impact sediment resuspension, for example,
but the dredged soils could become inconsistently diluted during transportation. Its
therefore critical to have sound understanding of environmental characteristics of dredging site and potential seriousness of environmental impacts dredgers of choice will result
in. In this section we hear different environmental factors to be considered while making
effective choice of dredging fleet, which are vitally important for low-impact projects:
Understanding the suitability between types of dredgers and the sites natural
characteristics of the site and its surrounding areas how dredgers impact the
following factors in different working site
Review categories of innovative and latest beneficial reuse and technologies: Analyses of associated costs, required technologies, potential environmental impacts
and benefits
Making decision on cost-effective options to handle large quantities of dredged
materials in large quantities in long-terms utilisation of ranking criteria
Impact of permits requirements on processing facilities and operations
Predicting the amount of sediments/materials to be dumped based on selected
dredging techniques, dumping strategies and sediment disposal criteria
Identify the practical thresholds and benchmark in usability of processed dredged
sediments

PANEL DISCUSSION:
Strategies for Securing Approvals for Dredging Projects
Legislations and environmental requirements differ across countries and regions, due
to national context, despite some common trends toward environmental risks, Health
& Safety risks which result directly on requirements regarding selection of equipment,
wildlife and heritage protection, risk management strategies, site investigation, sediments
disposal and beneficial reuses management, emission control. In this section leading
contractors and port authorities will discuss the major criteria, process and practice to
ensure better chance and faster approval from environmental agencies. Key discussion

Lessons learned: Planning strategic procedures to deliver multiple successful Dredging & Reclamation projects
Port authorities and Port management companies, especially government entities
usually control a variety of different marine infrastructures including seaports, oil
terminals, access channels, canals Different requirements for maintenance and
development often regularly emerge at each of these infrastructural site especially in
nations with substantial port development plans such as Vietnam and Indonesia. In
this topic our expert speaker will share their professional experiences in adapting and
successfully managing challenges during dredging and reclamation projects from
financing, tendering, feasibility study, to procurement and equipment maintenance
through various dredging & land reclamation projects including International Cruise
Terminal (Singapore), Pulau Gedung (Malaysia), amongst others:

Minimising the Maintenance Dredging Activities and Adverse Environmental impacts of Maintenance Dredging: Lessons Learned
Works have been undertaken in European countries to find engineering solutions that
result in reduced requirements for maintenance dredging, especially in small ports and
harbours. This practice improves the effectiveness in reducing siltation, natural sedimentation and lowering the amount of dredged materials where not necessary. In this section
we hear how these practices could be carried out and what implications they could have
on South East Asian countries:
Ahmad Metwally, Dredging Manager, New Suez Canal, Suez Canal Authority
Lessons learned: Highlights the geophysical risks and environmental risks resulting in recent projects delays
Criteria while selecting contractors: Contractors resourcing and project certificate
approval
Identify risk models in dredging and reclamation

overcome
Innovative management and procurement strategies that reduce expenditure while
improving production rate, compliance issues

ports dredging, reclamation, construction or disposal of dredged materials
PANEL DISCUSSION:
Practical Approaches for Reducing Emission from Dredging Fleet,
Improve Technological, Financial and Social Feasibility
Dredgers vary in types and shapes and often chosen according to contractors and site conditions requirements.
The more information prepared the more appropriate
dredgers/dredging fleet could be selected effectively so
as to fit with the requirements for the project. Nonetheless, in Asian contexts its common that in new dredging
projects, especially small-scale ones, project designers
often face challenges in lack of available data in site investigation, sophisticated needs for dredging equipment
and cost-effective choices of equipment. Appropriate site
investigation is part of the important criteria in deciding
dredging equipment but what else are the missing information often neglected?
Highlight conventional efficiency requirements of dredgers and know what your project requires
Understand the major factors in site investigation and
project needs that should be considered in dredging
equipment selections
Adopt understanding in each type of dredger and their
impacts on water body, seabed, contaminants as well as
surrounding nature
Handling logistical challenges and hindering accessibility
of dredgers in small-scale Dredging & Land reclamation
projects
Use geotechnical and geophysical inspection in considering dredgers
Establish cost-effectiveness considerations in selecting
dredgers
Learn new technologies and tailor them to suit your
project
Plan dredgers selection in highly sophisticated dredging
project
Integrate managerial practices with environmental conscience without losing production rate
