Fairfax County has 1,2 mln people populating the area and it is 2,700
people per square meter.

Main Cities

The main city of the county is Fairfax city which was

founded in 1874 and has a population of 25,000 people

Unemployment

Lorton

The problem statement is the unemployment rate in county Fairfax,

specifically in the south of the county, in the area of Lorton city.

Median Age

Lorton

One of the reasons of the high unemployed number of

people in Lorton is the age. There are a lot of young
people who just graduated from college and are

Median Income

Lorton

The income overall is high for a household in the county except again the
Lorton area, which has lower income comparing to the central part of the
county. And this also because many people are unemployed in Lorton

Household size

Lorton

Household size can be another reason why income is low in the family,
because there are pretty big families in the county in general, consisting of
4-6 people in one family.

Private Schools

Lorton

Analyzing how many schools are in the county, brings me to an

analysis that people need more schools. Private schools are not a lot in
the south of the county, because the income is lower and people can
not afford sending their children to private schools, which is costly.

Public Schools

Lorton

The similar situation is with the public schools, a very low number of
schools which leads to lack of facilities for children and to
unemployment as a consequences.

Colleges and Universities

Lorton

Colleges and universities, the number of educational facilities is very important if the goal
is to lower the unemployment rate. Again, there is just one college in Lorton, which is not
enough because the area is very populated. People have to send their children to DC or
Fairfax city, which is very expensive.

Educational Spending

People tend to spend less in Lorton, comparing to Fairfax city, which has a
very low unemployment rate.

Conclusion and recommendations:

From my project I came to a conclusion that

unemployment rate is high in Lorton area, because
there are not many schools and colleges in the area.
People can not send their children to Fairfax because
it is a longer commute and will be inefficient.
As a recommendation, I would suggest to open
educational facilities in Lorton area, such as public
schools and colleges, so it will be affordable for the
population to bring up their children.
