Nature.

divine, resourceful and resplendent spreads its arms with immeasurable

wealth that makes life on earth most enchanting. Environment is very much the part
of our existence, and its safety remains inevitable for the progress of mankind. How
much eve powerful man has become, all his endeavors should have the consent of
nature, confined to its limitations. All our personal, scientific and business
aspirations should choose to have eco-friendly means. This conviction, this
commitment, not just protects earth, but also ensures each child a better,
sustainable tomorrow.
Our environment is the surrounding things including living things and natural
forces. The environment of living things provides conditions for development and
growth as well as danger and damage. Living things do not simply exist in the
environment. They constantly interact with it. Organisms change in response to
conditions in their environment. The environment consists of interactions among
plants, animals, soil, water, temperature, light and other living and non-living
things.
Ranpur is my parental place and I have visited there several times with my parents.
The natural beauty of the place is very much enjoyable and alluring to me, although
I have heard it was much more beautiful a few decades ago. The long stretches of
mountains out of which one is famously known as Maninag mountain, the dense
forests, springs, waterfalls were very much captivating which have lost their natural
beauties over the years. The rising population and the human needs of livelihood,
residential space, requirement of forest woods etc. have destroyed the earlier
natural beauties. In the name of developmental works, construction of roads and
buildings, the tree have been cut leading to deforestation. This has resulted in
increase of temperature, climatic changes, rise in pollution, erosion of forest soil and
global warming. Soon with such a trend, the beauty and bounty of a healthy place
will be a myth for the future generations.
The detoriation of environment and the climate change are not alone to our place
but a global phenomenon. Presently , climate change is the greatest environmental
threat, endangering our health, communities, economy and national security. Global
warming is the increase of earths average surface temperature due to effect of
greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or
from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. Its
increase in atmosphere leads to an increase in heat and loss of ozone level. The
consequences of climate change are well perceived as the winter seasons are no
more in time and the summer has more duration and intensity in a year. The
untimely heavy rains and floods in Uttarakhand(2013) and recently in Chennai and
the rise of heat waves in summer are affecting a number of lives. Many of the
following harbingers and fingerprints arising out of climate change and global
warming are as follows:
1. Rising Seas-inundation of fresh water marshlands, low-lying cities and islands
with seawater. Ex- the city of Venice, called as the floating city, is being submerged
in water by 2 millimeters in a year.

2. Melting glaciers- significant melting of old glaciers is already observed. Ex- the
worlds lowest nation Mala Islands in Indian Ocean is 8 feet high from the sea
level. It is very prone to submerge in water for rise in sea level due to melting of
glaciers.
3. Changes in rainfall patterns- droughts and fires in some areas, flooding in other
areas. Ex-South Australia will turn into a desert due to lack of water and continuous
forest fires.
4. Bleaching of Coral Reefs due to warming seas and acidification due to carbonic
acids formation. Ex- the Great Barrier Reef in Queens Land of Australia spreading
over 344400sq.km.will be devoid of corals.
5.Loss of Plankton due to warming of seas -the enormous(900 mile long) Aleution
island ecosystems of orcas( killer whales),sea lions, sea otters, penguins, kelp beds
and their associated fish population appears to have collapsed due to the absence
of planktons growing under the ice.
6. Melting of the ice caps -Polar bear are now thought to be a greatly endangered
due to loss of habitat near the poles. Ex- the National Glacier Park in Montana,
America having 150 glaciers about 100 years ago now has 27 glaciers. And by 2030
it will lose all its glaciers.
The need of the hour is to preserve our environment and protect it from further
degradation which needs to be achieved at various levels such as Govt., NGOs,
clubs and social establishments, individuals etc. The small matters which affect the
environment adversely should be taken care of by one and all and the following
things should be attended to:
Using bicycle for short journey prevents carbon emission.
LED bulbs saves energy, saves energy and saves the environment.
Rain water may be harvested for a happy tomorrow.
Plastic bags litters landscape, kills animals. Bio-degradable bags may be used to
save earth.
Use of bio-fuels significantly reduces global warming.
Forests are the lungs of the earth. Lets save forests to help earth breathe freely.
Inculcate in children the habit of saving money and sowing plants.
Harvest wind and head for a greener tomorrow.
Greener the industrial policies, safer the earth.
Saving trees is securing the children a better tomorrow.
Charity begins at home; eco-friendly activities too.

The creation of a green environment is of paramount importance in

present day and it is not a difficult task but a conscious mind-set. It has been
possible to create forests, that too single handedly with a strong commitment in
mind.
