accounting education: A mobile-learning
experience

Issues
1) Application of mobile devices as part of
the students online learning experience
and student learning styles especially
by using an iPod medium.
2) Students enrolled in an exclusively
online graduate accounting program
with iPods as part of their learning
materials which is quite efficient and
effective for them in term use of time
and study planning

User Experience Study on Folktales Mobile Application for Childrens Education
Agree

Researchers, state that we are now entering the new era of

technology-enhanced learning, characterized as mobile
learning.

Besides, study from and show that the use of iPad and tablets
can stimulate childrens motivation and concentration

Disagree

However many of the method are extremely

expensive, highly intrusive and go well beyond
the skills sets of typical user researchers

Besides that, there also some researchers used user

experience questionnaire as measurement and evaluation tool
to measure user experience of application.

a)

Barbara, J. had utilized Games Experience Questionnaire

for evaluate learning management games

b)

D.S.S. Sahid et, al. evaluated learning management

system called Schoology by implementing user experience
questionnaire

c)

Mirfa Manzoor evaluated the Mobile Learning

ISO 9241-11 (1997)

ISO/IEC 9126-1(2001)

usability is defined as the extent to which a product can be

used by specified users to achieve specified goals with
effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction in a specified context
of use.

states that usability is the capability of the software product to

be understood, learned, used and attractive to the user, when
used under specified conditions.

Ziefle and Bay (2006)

demonstrate that awareness of user interface structure is one
of the most important issues concerning cell phones.
Jarvela et al. (2007)
studied how to help users participate in collaborative learning
using smartphones. The researchers utilized a mobile lecture
interaction tool to encourage students in higher education to
participate in a class discussion.

Bothel and Enfinger (1999)

Cappel and Hayen (2004)

A key objective of e-learning in an off-campus

programme is to provide an equivalent (or better)
learning experience relative to traditional modes of
learning.

Some students express unease with using online

resources, which is exacerbated when technical
problems arise.

Bryant et al. (2005)

Nixon and Leftwich (1998)

The increasing accessibility of mobile technology is

linked in part to its affordability. The cost of technology
and its acquisition is reducing significantly.

Student reticence also arises when universities adopt

inadequate or incorrect hardware or software that
prevents the benefits of e-learning from being received
without excessive effort on the part of the student.

Zahariadis and Stamatios (2003)

Motiwalla (2007)

The online learning space acts as a repository for a

broad variety of learning resources that gives students
quick and easy access to a huge library of information
that can be downloaded from any location, and at a time
of the students choosing.

Unless careful consideration is dedicated to

these issues, there is a danger that students, particularly
those who are studying
exclusively off-campus, become disconnected to the
course and/or the institution
leading them to take a passive role in their learning.

Hiltz (1995), Zahariadis and

Stamatios (2003)

Yining et al. (2001)

This flexibility liberates students from the constraints of

having to attend a face-to-face lecture at a specified
time and is particularly beneficial for students located
off-campus.

There is a further risk that students may become

particularly focused on success in the course
assessment at the expense of broader learning
outcomes.

Conclusion
This paper presents the expert
review of user experience on the
Malay folktales application,
MFolktales with special regard to
children education. The prototype
was design to promote Malay folk
stories and to inculcate a good
reading habit among children. The
prototype was tested on 15
kindergarten students from
KEMAS assisted their teacher. The
measurement used user
experience questionnaire as the
tools to evaluate childrens
experience in terms of
attractiveness, efficiency,
perspicuity, dependability,
stimulation and novelty. The
questionnaire was adapted and
customized in accordance with the
application. Overall, the feedback
from the tester was positive.
Guided by the teacher, the children
seem to be motivated to use the
application. They were very happy
and really expressed their interest
in every module contained in the
application.

The findings in this study

suggest that iPods are an

QUESTIONNAIRE
1) to elicit students opinions on the usefulness of the iPod as a tool for
learning
the effectiveness of time and study planning when they are use mlearning method especially iPod device in their education learning
styles.
2) to establish their learning styles (using a VARK questionnaire)
Student opinions regarding the use of the iPods as a learning aid
were measured using 15 ten-point Likert-type scale items, where the
scale anchors were pairs of contradictory statements for example,
finding recordings on the universitys Web-CT to download onto the
iPod was easy/difficult).
