FOR E W 0 R D

0.1 This Indian Standard (Second Revision) was adopted by the Indian
Standards .Institution on 18 January 1979, after the draft finalized by the
Fertilizers Sectional Committee had been approved by the Petroleum, Coal
and Related Products Division Council.
0.2 This standard was first published in 1951 and revised in 1962. In the
present revision, while two grades of the material arc being retained, their
water soluble phosphates ( as P200 ) contents are being lowered from 18'0
and 16"0 to 16"0 and 140 percent respectively. Packing and marking clauses
have also been modified,
0.3 In the preparation of this standard, consideration has been given to
the need for maintaining co-ordination with the specification of the
Fertilizer ( Control) Order, 1957 and the Essentinl Commodities Act, 1955
of Government ofl ndia, However this standard is subject to the provisions irnposed under this Order wherever applicable.

0.4 For particle size, the usc of IS Sieves conforming to IS: 460-1962* is
prescribed.

Where IS Sieves arc not available, other standard sieves as

judged from aperture size may be used.

0.5 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this
standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test Of analysis, shall be rounded otT in accordance
with IS: 2-1960t. The number of significant places retained in the rounded
off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

1. SCOPE

1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements and the methods of sampling
and test for superphosphate. The material is used as a fertilizer.
Spccification for test sieves ( revised ).
fRules for rounding otT numerical values ( revised ).

IS : 294 1979
1-, GRADES
2.1 There shall be two grades of the materia), namely:
a) Grade 1, and

b) Grade 2.

3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 The material shall be free from excessive lumps and shall not form a
hard cake on storage.
.
3.1 The material shall also comply with the requirements given in Table 1.

4. PACKING AND MARKING

4.1 Packing - The material shall be packed in 50-kg packing or as agreed

polyethyle-ne woven bags with loose or laminated polyethylene film liner
shall be used. Each package shall be securely closed.

c) Water soluble phosphates ( as P~06 ), percentage by mass;

d) Batch number and date of manufacture; and

e) Gross and net mass in kg.

4.2.1 The packages may also be marked with the Standard Mar k ,
NOTF. - The usc of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the
Bureau of Indian Standards Act. 1936 and the Rules and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard M ark on products covered hy an Indian Standard conveys
the assurance that they have been produced to cornplv with the requirements of that
standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control
which is devised and supervised by R IS and operated by the producer. Standard
marked products are also continuously checked by DIS for conformity to that
standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under \vhich a Iicence for
the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may
be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards.

5.2 Criteria for Conformity - For declaring the conformity of the lot to
the requirements of this specification, the test results on the composite test
sample shall satisfy all the requirements specified in 3.
