Decontamination of hospital wards, operating theatres, residential care homes, classrooms, offices
and other facilities with continuous flow of staff, patients and visitors can harbour unseen bacteria
and viruses. The risk associated with healthcare acquired infections and cross-infections have been
continuously highlighted in the media recently, with many hospitals closing due to outbreaks of
infections.
The UV-C Mobile Room Sterilising unit will sterilise the air and surfaces in clinical
applications, against microbial contamination. This UVGI system is a very effective piece of
equipment to prevent against hospital acquired infection and cross-contamination. Suitable for
decontaminating and sterilising indoor air, items and surfaces in any environment.
Due to severe cut backs across the NHS, Institutions and other working environments. This UV-C
Mobile Room Sterilising unit, has been designed and manufactured to be affordable to every
establishment. For larger room sizes over 40 square metres, 2 or 3 units can be placed strategically
around the room, giving a higher output of UV-C to achieve more than 99.9% kill rate.
Features:
UV-C Wavelength 253.7 nm
55 watts with an intensity of 30,000 micro watts.
30,000 microwatts seconds per square centimetre. This is the dosage needed to deactivate
micro-organisms formations.
Timer setting and remote control operation (This allows exit from the room in order to avoid
direct exposure to the UV-C light.)
Automatically switches off when the desired time has expired.
Room can be used directly after treatment.

Abstract
Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) is electromagnetic radiation that can destroy the
ability of microorganisms to reproduce by causing photochemical changes in nucleic acids.
Wavelengths in the UVC range are especially damaging to cells because they are absorbed
by nucleic acids. The germicidal effectiveness of UVC peaks at about 260265 nm. This peak
corresponds to the peak of UV absorption by bacterial DNA. The germicidal effectiveness of
UVC radiation can vary between species and the broader range wavelengths that include
UVB also make a small contribution to inactivation (Webb and Tuveson 1982). Although the
methods and details of disinfection with ultraviolet light are fairly well understood, to the
point that effective disinfection systems can be designed and installed with predictable
effects, the exact nature of the effect of ultraviolet light on microorganisms at the molecular
level is still a matter of intensive research. This chapter examines the fundamentals of the
complex interaction between UV irradiation and cell DNA at the molecular level and
provides detailed background information to aid in the understanding of the various
biophysical processes that are involved in microbial inactivation.
