Thisisafixedtermappointmentforoneyearinitially,withpossibilityofextensionto
twoyears.
ProfessorNavaAshraf,MarshallInstituteResearchDirectorandProfessorofEconomicsin
theDepartmentofEconomics,isseekinguptofourResearchAssistantsfortheacademicyear
201718tojointheeconomicsresearchgroupattheMarshallInstitute.Professor
Ashraf'sworktestsinsightsfrombehaviouraleconomicsinthecontextoflargescalefield
experimentsaroundtheworldinhealth,education,financeandemployeemotivation.
Youwillbeinvolvedinthedesignandstartupphaseofnumerousupcomingfieldexperiments,
workinteamswithProfessorsandPhDstudentsondataanalysis,andhavethechancetobe
engagedinpolicyandpractitioneroutreach.CurrentprojectsarelocatedinZambiaand
London,usingamodelofcogenerationofknowledgeincollaborationwithgovernmentoffices,
NGOs,philanthropicorganisationsandforprofitfirms.
YourresponsibilitiesasaResearchAssistantwillincludeavarietyoftasksthatprovide
preparationforexcellentPhDprogrammesineconomics.Youwillhaveastrongsenseof
independenceandentrepreneurshipwhileinteractingregularlywithProfessors,PhDstudents
andothercollaboratorsinateamorientedenvironment.Youwillalsobeabletotake
advantageoftheacademiccommunityatLSE,including,butnotlimitedto,auditingcourses
andattendingseminars.Thisroleservesasanidealbridgeintopostgraduatestudiesfor
studentsinterestedinempiricaleconomics.
Applicantsshouldbecompleting(orhavecompleted)aBachelors(orequivalent)orMasters
degreeineconomicsorotherrelateddisciplineswithastronginterestinfieldexperimentsand
collaborationwithpolicypractitionersandprivatesectorpartners.Youshouldhavestrong
quantitativeanddataanalysisskillsaswellasexperiencewithelectronicdatacollection
platformsandfamiliaritywithrandomisedcontrolledtrials.Youshouldbeconfidentwiththeuse
ofdifferentdatamanagementsoftwareandbeproficientintheuseofSTATA,MatlaborR.You
mustalsohaveexcellentwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills.
