aggressive high-heat tests. We compared how
Therma-Gard protects common cooling system
metals under extreme, high-heat conditions
with how other coolants protect under the same
conditions. The metals protected by Therma-Gard
lost less mass than those protected by other

Is Therma-Gard a coolant or anti-freeze?

Is Therma-Gard compatible with other brands

and types of coolant in the market place?

Therma-Gard is both. It is a fully formulated summer coolant, winter

antifreeze that delivers full protection from corrosion, cavitation, foaming,
rust and scaling. Therma-Gard is designed to withstand thermal oxidation
and breakdown to handle higher temperature applications while providing
service life up to 6 years or 6,000* hours.

Yes, Therma-Gard is compatible with other coolants in the marketplace.

Although we do not recommend mixing of other coolants with Therma-Gard,
as part of our due diligence, we have performed compatibility testing against
other heavy duty diesel coolants representing a spectrum of formulation
strategies, including Caterpillar ELC, Detroit Diesel PowerCool and PowerCool
Plus, and Cummins ES Complete and Cummins Optimax. Using standardised
ASTM test procedures, Therma-Gard was mixed at 3:1, 1:1, & 1:3 ratios and
subjected to ASTM 1384 and ASTM 4340 test procedures. All of these mixtures
did pass these two corrosion tests.

What forms does Therma-Gard come in?

JohnDeere Therma-Gard is available in two forms concentrate, which
must be mixed with water for proper freeze protection, and pre-mix which is
a ready-to-use formula containing 50/50 mix of fully formulated JohnDeere
Therma-Gard concentrate and demineralised water.

What equipment can I use Therma-Gard in?

Therma-Gard can be used as the coolant / anti-freeze in any water-cooled
engine. This new coolant formulation is designed to meet the demands
of current and future engine cooling systems. The advanced technology
of Therma-Gard will provide performance benefits across all industry
applications including; all light and heavy duty diesel, gasoline, natural gas
and LPG engines.
