Introduction
1.1
The purpose of this specification is to define the marking of electrical, instrumentation, and
control components including: connecting boxes, cables, cubicles, wiring inside cubicle,
measurements, and control and regulation components.
This specification is based on "Kraftwerk-Kennzeichensystem (KKS)" system which shall be
complied with. The application of the KKS system is defined in the following sections.
The KKS of the main equipment shall be obtained from HZI P&IDs and single line diagram.
All labels shall be in English.
Note: Notwithstanding the above, the wiring and labelling of internal components of
switchboards and control boards must be in accordance with BS EN 61439. Furthermore,
all safety signage shall be in accordance with the norms, standards, and regulations,
specified in the TSD.
The labels shall be approved by HZI and shall match the designations in the mechanical
and electrical schematic diagrams.
Equipment shall have only one designation unless specific permission is obtained from the
employer.
When a wire numbering system is used it should be in accordance with a recognised
marking system or with a functional marking system or as specified elsewhere

KKS marking
2.1
General rules
All components shall be labeled according to KKS-manual for the plant based on the KKS
standard.
One marking system is defined for the process. It organises the different systems and
groups of equipment in relation with their function in different categories such as
mechanicals, civil works, electricity, control command and instrumentation.
The marking in relation with the process is composed of two categories:

Cables between the measurement device and the junction box are to be labelled as follows:
Each end of every core shall be identified using plastic interlocking cable ferrules or printed
sleeve type, cable labels.
Spare cable cores shall be labelled as spares and terminated with enough length to move
anywhere in the panel.

Labelling plates
The final labelling plates shall be non-corrodible material such as stainless steel, Trafolite,
Gravoply, or rigid plastic (Dilophane) which is weather proof, and can withstand the
maximum temperatures in the surrounding environment. Plastic strip type labels are not
allowed.
The labels shall be indelibly stamped or engraved with the equipment number and
description as described in this document, which shall correspond to the contractors
drawings and documentation. The labels shall be secured in position with stainless steel
plated, machined, self-tapping screws or stainless steel rivets.
If not positioned on the equipment the labels shall be positioned in close proximity to the
equipment, and in all cases the labels shall be positioned so as to leave no doubt as to the
item it refers to.
In electrical panels the labels shall not be fixed to the component, but to the backplane or to
a fixed part in close proximity to the component, where it can be clearly seen.
Labelling shall be black letters on white background.
Each cabinet will be identified by its KKS and the functional description of the cabinet.
All switchgear shall identified by a label in front on the door, drawer, or module; and at rear
of the switchboard.
