DATE: May 18th , 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school


SKILLS: Reading
EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Students will be able to recognize new vocabulary related to the unit and to identify the type and purpose of the text
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, dictionaries, whiteboard, copybooks, pens.

TIME COMMENTS

INTRODUCTION: 8 minutes - Greeting.


- Calming down the students.
- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on a reading and exercises
related to the reading.
- Give the instructions.

WHILE-STAGE: 25 minutes. - The students will be asked to do a pre-reading activity that contains 3 activities consisting on
predicting and deducing then, in pairs they will look for the new words in the dictionary. These
activities will be checked orally asking the students at random. For the next activity they must
read the text “A Chilean Celebration” and check their predictions.

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The students will be asked if they have any doubt regarding the text.
- The teacher will ask the students what they learned in the lesson.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that for the next class the activities will consist on a reading and writing.

DATE: May 25th , 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: Students will be able to recognize textual elements and to identify the sequence of events.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, dictionaries, whiteboard, copybooks, pens.

TIME COMMENTS

INTRODUCTION: 8 minutes - Greeting.

- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on a reading and exercises
related to the reading.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 25 minutes. - The students will do a quick reading of the text they read last class “A Chilean Celebration”. The
students do the after reading activities that include: language focus (and – because – or),
matching, speaking and completing. The activities will be checked orally and on the board

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The students will be asked if they have any doubt regarding the activities done in the lesson.
- The teacher will ask some students to create short sentences using because, or, and orally.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: to put into practice what they have learnt through the Unit (adverbs of frequency, connectors and words related to traditional
celebrations)

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on a mini-test in which they
must put into practice what they have learned; the handout is based on a reading task.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 33 minutes. - The students start doing the mini-test which is an individual work. This test contains a text from
which they must extract information for doing the exercises. The activities they must perform are
extracting specific information from the text, answering questions, completing and connecting
sentences using and – or – because.

POST-STAGE:

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students are asked to return their handouts.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: to use previous knowledge to predict content and to recognize participants in a communicative situation.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, travelers CD, whiteboard, copybooks, and pens.

INTRODUCTION: 8 minutes - Greeting.

- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on listening.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 25 minutes. - The students will do a pre-listening activity that consists on predicting and matching, then for the
next activity the students will listen to a record called “Top of the Pops” and they will do the
following activities: checking their predictions and choosing the correct alternative. The
exercises will be checked orally and on the board.

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The teacher will ask the students to create some sentences using the new words recently
introduced.
- The teacher will deliver the evaluated mini-test they did last class.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

DATE: June 15th, 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: to organize ideas to complete and paragraphs and create simple sentences.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, whiteboard, copybooks, and pens.

INTRODUCTION: 8 minutes - Greeting.

- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on writing.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 25 minutes. - The students will write an interview with a real music/movie star using the questions that appear
in a previous exercise. For the next activity the students must complete a dialog about their
favorite music star with real information and practice it with their seatmates. This dialogue will be
checked next class.

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The teacher will go around the students’ seats checking their dialogs and helping them to
correct the mistakes if there are some.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

DATE: June 22nd, 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school

EXPECTED OUTCOMES: to organize ideas to complete paragraphs and create simple sentences.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be told that the activity for the lesson will consist on an oral presentation of
their dialogs.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 31 minutes. - The students practice their dialogs for the last time and then in pairs they go in front of the class
and present them to the teacher. They can say the dialogs twice and they will be recorded.

POST-STAGE:

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

DATE: June 29th, 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school


SKILLS: Writing - speaking
EXPECTED OUTCOMES: to be able to use the words and the expressions they have learnt.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, whiteboard, copybooks, and pens.

TIME COMMENTS

INTRODUCTION: 8 minutes - Greeting.

- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the lesson.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 25 minutes. - The students do some activities related to the listening and vocabulary learnt in the previous
lessons. They must complete a dialog and then practice it, after that they have to grade some
music styles from 1 to 5 and finally they must do a crossword in order to check how much they
remember about the lesson. The activities are checked orally.

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The teacher will ask the students which are their favorite singers and actors.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

DATE: July 6th, 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school


SKILLS: Reading.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES: To use previous knowledge to predict content.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, whiteboard, copybooks, and pens.

INTRODUCTION: 5 minutes - Greeting.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the lesson.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 28 minutes. - The students do a pre-reading activity that consists on predicting information, answering
questions, matching and find cognates in the text “Yerba mate and the Guarani people” and
guessing what is the story about. The activities will be checked orally.

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The teacher asks the students to name the words they just learnt and its meanings in order to
see how many of them they remember.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.

DATE: July 13th, 2010 LEVEL: 8th grade of primary school


SKILLS: Reading.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES: To be able to identify the type of a text, to recognize textual elements and to identify the sequence of events.
RESOURCES: Travelers book for students, whiteboard, copybooks, and pens.

TIME COMMENTS

INTRODUCTION: 5 minutes - Greeting.

- Writing the date, the name of the unit and the aim of the lesson on the whiteboard.
- Warming up.

CORE OF THE CLASS:

PRE-STAGE: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the lesson.
- Give the instructions.
WHILE-STAGE: 28 minutes. - The students read the text “Yerba Mate and The Guarani People” in a loud voice taking turns,
each student will read till a dot and then another student will keep reading. Then they will
continue doing activities related to this text like completing a diagram with information they must
extract from the text and find the partner of some titles to form complete sentences putting them
in the correct order (chronologically).

POST-STAGE: 6 minutes. - The teacher will ask some questions to the students about the text for checking comprehension.

CLOSSING: 3 minutes. - The students will be informed about the activities for the next class.
