Enrollment Policy
Parent Involvement
Parents understand and support the program
goals

Parents agree to a K-6 commitment to the


Language Immersion Program

Parents agree to participate in school


meetings and activities

Parents are expected to be active participants


in their childs education

Kindergarten: no entrance requirements,


based on available spaces student applications are
selected on a lottery system with the exception of
limited English Spanish speakers who will need to
enroll in Spanish bilingual classes

Grade 1 and up enrollment will depend on available


spaces, prospective students will need to have a
basic Chinese or Vietnamese language proficiency
to ensure their success in the program

students in grades K to 3 are expected to participate


in the program for the duration of their elementary
education or up to 4th grade if available;

Student Participation Criteria

maintain satisfactory grades in all core


classes during each grading cycle

Perform at satisfactory level or above in the


State of Texas Assessments of Academic
Readiness (STAAR)

Bilingualism/Biliteracy: Develop high


levels of proficiency in two languages

participate in cultural events which may


occur during evenings/weekends

High levels of academic achievement:


Perform at or above grade level in
academic areas in both languages

complete all assignments and special


projects

Program Goals

Obtain fluent English speaker score on Oral


IPT or be a native Chinese or Vietnamese
speaker if not fluent in English

Cross-cultural attitudes: Demonstrate


positive cross-cultural attitudes and
behaviors, and high levels of self-esteem

processing challenges should be discouraged from


participating in a language immersion program since
this may be counterproductive to their academic and
language development.
