Materials Needed:
Spiral notebook, two-pocket folder, pencils (mechanical or regular), colored
checking pen
Course Description:
This class is aligned with the 7th Grade Iowa Core Mathematics Standards. These
standards fall under the following categories:
Ratios and Proportional Relationships
The Number System
Expressions and Equations
Geometry
Statistics and Probability
For more information regarding the specific standards, please visit
https://iowacore.gov/iowa-core/grade/7/mathematics.
Expectations:
Beginning of class:
Students must come to class with a pencil and checking pen every day
Before sitting down, students should grab their folder and notebook from
the back of the classroom.
These materials will remain in the classroom throughout the year
unless a student needs to take them home to study or practice. In this
case, the student is responsible for having the materials in class the
next day.
As soon as materials are gathered, students are expected to sit in their desk
and put all materials under their seats except for their homework and a
checking pen. Students will fill out their planners and be ready for class to
begin.
During class:
Names will be drawn from popsicle sticks. If you dont know the answer, I
will move on and come back to you.
If you have a question, please raise your hand.
You are expected to take notes and participate in discussions/group work.
End of class:

You will be given worktime most days to finish your homework in class. Use
this time wisely.
If you finish early, you will get on Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org) or
work on missing work for my class. Those are your only options.
Sometimes, class will end with a ticket out the door.
When the students are dismissed, they must put their folders and notebooks
back in their cubbies before exiting the classroom.

The Top 3 Classroom Rules:

1. Respect yourself, your peers, your teacher, and your surroundings
2. Follow all directions quickly the first time they are given
3. Be prepared to learn and problem-solve
Planner Management:
B Behavior
A Assignment not completed
M Materials
T Tardy
Students earning 3 of the above marks in a given day are required to have a
parent signature in the planner that evening and attend a team meeting with the
teachers. Students who continue to earn 3 marks in a day will be required to
serve a 30 minute detention as well.
*Students who receive any two of these marks during one period in my class will
be required to serve a lunch detention with me.
Tardy Policy:
Tardy is defined as not being in your designated classroom before the bell rings. If
you have been excused by another teacher, you must come to class with a pass.
Classwork/Homework:
In this class, you can expect to have homework multiple days a week. Therefore, it
would be smart to make sure that all assignments are recorded in you planner the
day they are assigned and that you have all the materials you need in order to
complete the assignments. Unless otherwise specified, all homework will be due
the day after it is given. If homework is turned in without a name, you will have 3
days to claim it before it is tossed. If you are struggling with a concept and need
extra help, I will be available to help you before school (Tuesdays-Thursdays),
during class work time, and after school until 3:30.
Late Homework:
Students are expected to do all homework assignments in order to gain the
practice necessary for mastering concepts. In the event of an absence, the
student is required to make up the assignments missed. It is the students
responsibility to get notes and bellringers from his/her peers. All late homework
will be turned into the basket that corresponds to your class period.
Grades:
80% - Tests/Quizzes

10% - Bellringers
Period Exam

10% - Marking

In this class, homework is considered to be a form of practice. Therefore, it is

not a part of the students final grade. Despite its omission from the gradebook,
however, homework still plays an important role in this class. Every time a
student completes a homework assignment with at least 80% accuracy, they will
be given a 1 in the gradebook to signify that they have completed it. If not fully
completed or accurate enough to demonstrate understanding, the student will be
given a 0 until it is finished with at least 80% accuracy.
Students in this class will have the opportunity to retake their tests or quizzes
up to the end of the quarter until they are satisfied with their grades (each retake
will be different than the last). However, in order to retake, these things must
happen:
The student must have all homework turned in
The student must make test corrections on their original exam (including an
explanation of why they missed each question) and they must be checked by
the teacher
In order to ensure that students are practicing responsibility and engaging in the
material, bellringers will also be factored into their grade. Each bellringer
problem is worth 2 points: 1 for completion and 1 for accuracy.
