for International Students

1. Admission Process
Process

Details
You need to secure a faculty adviser prior to submitting your application.
Contact a professor and consult your admission and research in advance. (Refer to #5)
Once you secure a faculty adviser, fill out an application form at the Study In Korea
webpage (http://www.studyinkorea.go.kr > Sign-up > Overseas Study Application)

a) Academic Transcripts for Bachelor and Master(only for PhD applicant) course

The recommender needs to submit a recommendation letter directly to UOU
admission officer by email. (uou.sean@gmail.com)
*Application Deadline: 30 November (Korean visa(D/F/E) holders: 31 December)

Admission
Result Release

Conditional or Complete Admission Offer shall be sent to the accepted applicants by


email. (Email address registered on the application form)
*Those with Conditional Offer need to submit outstanding materials as stated on the offer.
You need to submit following documents by post. (NO scanned copies accepted)
a) Signed Admission Offer Acceptance Letter (Enclosed in the Offer)
b) Certified(Apostille or Consular verification) copy of (expected) Graduation Certificates
c) Certified(Apostille, Notarisation or Consular verification) copy of Academic Transcripts

*Offer Acceptance Deadline: 31 December (Korean visa(D/F/E) holders: 10 February)
Your visa application documents will be pre-screened by Ulsan Immigration
Office in Korea. After the visa document screening, if your visa application is
granted, UOU will send you a VIN(Visa Issuance Number) by an email and

you need to apply for a student(D-2) visa at the Korean Diplomatic Mission

in your country with the VIN. If VIN issuance is rejected by Immigration


Office, your admission will be canceled.
If you currently hold a valid Korean visa(D/F/E), you may need to change
your visa status to a student visa through Ulsan Immigration Office.

*All new comers are guaranteed for on-campus Student House for the first semester.

2. Eligibility
Category

Details
Should meet one of the below conditions;
a) You and both your parents must hold foreign citizenship.
*Not eligible If you or any of your parents hold Korean dual-citizenship.

Nationality

*Taiwanese applicants are eligible even if one of the parents holds Korean citizenship

Requirement

b) You must hold a foreign citizenship (not Korean dual-citizenship) and must
have completed or expect to complete all your primary and secondary
education (equivalent to 12 year education in Korea) and tertiary education
fully outside of Korea

You must have received or expect to receive a Bachelor(Hon) degree or
a equivalent qualification.

Academic

Requirement

You must have received or expect to receive a Master degree or a equivalent


qualification.
*Those currently enroled at universities in Korea needs to drop out of the school
before the enrolment to UOU (Otherwise, the admission is to be canceled)
[Korean Language Requirement]
Should meet one of the below conditions;
a) Those with TOPIK(Test of Proficiency in Korean) Level 3+
b) Those who completed Intensive Korean Level 4+ at UOU Korean Language Education Centre
*50th TOPIK (January 2017) result accepted.
(Submit the 50th TOPIK registration slip during the application process)
*UOU Intensive Korean Course result for Winter 2016 session accepted
(Submit Level 4 Enrolment Certificate for Winter 2016 session during the application process)

Language
Requirement

Should meet one of the below conditions;
a) Those with TOFEL iBT 71+
b) Those with IELTS 5.5+
c) Those who completed Bachelor or Master degree course fully in English
(Medium of Instruction certificate required unless the school is located in a
country where the official language is English)
*Language certificates only issued within 2 years from the application deadline accepted.
*Students admitted based on Korean language must pass TOPIK Level 4 to graduate.

*Those who submitted Certificate of Expected Graduation need to submit the Graduation or Degree
Certificate before beginning of the semester. Otherwise, the admission and visa are to be canceled.

*Tuition scholarship is granted throughout the regular study period; 4 semesters for Master
course, 6 semesters for PhD course and 8 semesters for Combined course. (Applicable only
when the previous semesters GPA is over 3.00 out of 4.50)
*Applicants who are currently employed in Korea with working visa are not eligible for this
tuition scholarship. (Industry scholarship(10% of Tuition off) applies instead)
*Entrance fee of KRW 732,000 (Approx. USD 700) applies to all students.

[PhD]
- Publication of at least 2 SCI-level papers,
- Publication of at least 1 SCI-level paper and 2 KCI-level papers or
- Publication of at least 4 KCI-level papers
[Master]
1) Humanities/Social Sciences Area
- Submission of at least 1 KCI-level paper or
- Publication or translation(including joint works) of at least 1 book
2) Other Areas except for Humanities/Social Sciences

- Submission of at least 1 KCI-level paper


[PhD]
- Publication of at least 1 SCI-level paper or
- Publication of at least 2 KCI-level papers
[Master]
- At least 1 presentation at nation-level conferences or TOPIK Level 4+
[PhD]

2) Research Assistantship(RA) Stipend


- RA stipend is granted based on the applicants research competency, and the final
decision is made by each professor(faculty adviser). Consult with a professor(faculty
adviser) for the details.
- RA stipend amount varies depending on the professor, but the average amount is
around USD 500 per month for Master and USD 800 for PhD course students.
