Schedule for I am Malala. Words of advice: First, Strictly pay attention to all dates.

I will not always remind

you. Second, Do not lose this schedule.
Reading is an interactive activity. The words on the page do nothing unless you interact with them, give them
meaning. As you work your way through this autobiography of a young girl, Malala, who has had an impact on
not only her country, Pakistan, but also the world you will interact with her story through writing, reflecting,
discussing. And you will interact with each other. No two people take the same meanings from what they read.
You will be introduced to interpretations, reflections, ideas, etc. that you had not thought of. As a reading
community, you all will become active readers and learners.
In order to help you better interact with Malala, you will learn a little bit about what is most important to her
education. You attend a school that is faith based. Malala too attends faith-based schools. Her faith is that of
Islam. You will learn a little bit about her schooling within her faith and a bit about some precepts, taken from
the Quran, that guide the teaching in her schools.
You will also learn about some of the politics of the Middle East, the condition of children and women, and the
roots of the terrorism that has disrupted and destroyed so many lives globally. Reading Malalas story should
arm you with the knowledge of a Middle Eastern world that is so much more than the chaos presented by the
media. And you will learn of a young girl who has had the courage to offer herself for the betterment of that
world, its women and children, and all
