Cause and Effect Essay

For the past three decades, information and communication has been transitioning to a
digital era. This transition is due to the advancements of computers in society. These
improvements in processing power, memory, and communication capabilities have led the way
for computers to become a major part of today's society. Computers have improved our lives by
being able to perform multiple tasks at once, storing thousands of documents, and allowing for
communication across the world and to outer space.
Computers can stream videos, download files, and do much more simultaneously. This is
a feat that is nearly impossible for humans to achieve. Only a few people can perform two to
three tasks at the same time with a decent level of focus. Computers far exceed this number,
performing over 100 different processes simultaneously. The ability to process multiple tasks
allows the user to make full use of the computer, typing documents while having other tasks
running in the background. Also, with computers able to process so many tasks, people can flow
smoothly from one program to another. Employees that use computers for work can now
multitask with ease. Computers have made it enjoyable for people to do work and easier for
work to be done.
Secondly, computers improve our lives with their vast memory. Current computers can
possess and store terabytes of memory. The increase in memory from its initial design has
allowed government agencies to store tons of data on computers, eliminating the need for paper
copies and making the documents more secure. A computer's memory also preserves files until
they are deleted. Paper documents that would become tattered over time are now fully digitized
and can be accessed freely. The memory of a computer has made managing paper documents,
digital documents, and other forms of files easier to store and organize.

Finally, computers have allowed for communication across the world and beyond. Many
computers are connected to a network, so users can communicate with one another. A computer
in Europe can communicate with one in China or in the US. This allows companies and agencies
to maintain a secure connection with their branches. Computers are not just used on Earth to
communicate. The International Space Station has many computers aboard which are used to
communicate with Earth and perform research on solar bodies. Computers play a major role on
communication both on Earth and in space.
Computers have improved our lives through the numerous features that they can perform.
Capable of handling multiple programs, thousands of documents, and far distance
communication, computers have made the impossible, possible. Back when computers were first
released, no one would have thought that computers would become what they are today. With
how beneficial they are to today's society, one can only wonder what computers will be capable
of in the future.
