theFilipinopeople.
Here'sthething:
Ialsorecognizethedifferentsocial,politicalandculturalconditions
inthecountrieswhereweresidethatrelatetoholding
demonstrations.Thechallengeforusistocourageously,
imaginativelyandintuitivelyaccomplishourendgoalsunderany
circumstancewithoutnecessarilyoffendinganybodyandinfact
gettingsupportbecauseoftherighteousnessofourposition.
Demonstrationsoughttobewelcomedinanydemocraticcountry.In
theU.S.,theyareanimportantpartof"FirstAmendmentRights".In
theAustralianConstitution,freespeechandfreedomofassemblyare
alsogivenmuchrespect.Theyhelptocreateabettersocietybecause
theypresentandclarifyimportantissues.
Thesubjectmatterofourprotestdoesnotdemandanythingfromthe
Australiangovernment.ItissimplytellingtheworldthatChinaisnot
playingbytheruleswhichcivilizednationsoughttodo.The
Australiangovernmentwillnotbeoffendedbecauseasamatterof
moralpropriety,Australiaandotherrationalnationssupportarules
basedconductbynations.
Andasgoodservantsofwhatistrueandright,weoughttoproceed
tocourageouslyactwhencalledtodosobyourdutytoour
fellowmenandconscienceswithoutwaitingforanybodytoleadusby
thehand.Evenoneindividualcanbeverypowerfulandinfluential
whenheservesthetruthandtrulyloveshisfellowmenandGod.
