Being True or False
Would you want to be you or someone else? Society has been our lives and past
generations lives but it was stricter than ours today.
Society controls everything you do like how you talk, walk, think, and etc. Fahrenheit
451 links with the claim because its about government and society controlling people and the
claim is about society controlling people. In the book Fahrenheit 451 Montag says, Nobody
listens anymore. I cant talk to the walls because theyre yelling at me, I cant talk to my wife;
she listens to the walls. I just want someone to hear what I have to say. And maybe if I talk long
enough itll make sense. Montag is saying how that everyone is following what the government
wants blindly. He doesnt want that life anymore because its unnatural and he is lonely. Some
people immediately or takes time to realize when something is wrong but others will never see
the problem.
Individualism is what makes everything different and we should be proud about he or she
differences. Being human is also mean being different because there are several things that proof
everyone cant be identically like thinking, feeling, or soul. Merriam Webster says, the quality
or character of a particular person or thing that distinguishes them from others of the same kind,
especially when strongly marked. This is the definition of individuality and its about all who
are made or born different. Peoples differences what makes people human and if everything
were the same it would be nothing but clones.

Even though the evidence is against society, there is some good within it because its
what makes people feel belonging and important to the world. Society is better than individuality
because in Social Identity Theory by Saul Mcleod says, Tajfel (1979) proposed that the
groups (e.g. social class, family, football team etc.) which people belonged to were important
source of pride and self-esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of belonging to
the social world. The evidence of the counterclaim may be strong but it doesnt change anything
about society. In Your Identity Matters by Stedman Graham says, Having an identity,
knowing who you are, finding your purpose and passions, and learning how to shape and
navigate your future. Stedman Graham is saying how important it is to find oneself to make
your future real. Society or other people cant make you and only you can make you.
Be yourself instead of being what the world, people, or society wants you to be. Dont try
to act like someone you are not because you are not being true to yourself and others. The only
person who can choose to be himself or herself because its his or hers life.
