1. a) Explain the sprinkler and drip irrigation methods. Write down their advantages and
disadvantages.
b) With following data: FC = 80%, PWP = 35%, root depth = 60cm, soil density =
1.5gm/cc, ETC = 5 mm/day, application efficiency = 80%, conveyance loss = 55% and
distribution loss = 65%, calculate

2. a) Write down the causes and effects of water logging. Also explain various methods of
reclamation of water logged area.
b) Derive the expression for subsurface drainage spacing.
c) Explain different types of outlets used in irrigation projects.
3. a) A guide bank with stone pitching is required for a bridge on a river having the
following particulars:
Design flood discharge : 50,000 cumecs
Silt factor = 1.10
Bed level of river = 130.00m
High flood level = 140.00m
Thickness of launching apron = 2.5 times thickness of stone pitching
What length of launching apron is necessary to protect the upstream impregnable head
of the guide bank?
b) Explain different level of planning in irrigation projects. Also explain different types
of maintenance required in irrigation projects.
4. a) Find out the depth of an irrigation canal having the following data:
Discharge, Q = 30m3/s
Bed slope = 1 in 3000
Bed width = 6.0m
Mannings rugosity coeff. = 0.019
What is the mean particle size of the canal bed material?
