Global Issues
Unemployment and Food Crisis are the highlighted global issues.
Article Summary
This particular article has highlighted two major global issues, such as food crisis and
unemployment. Employees of Indian origin are losing their jobs from the majority of the
construction as well as other organizations due to decreased demand of crude oil and lower oil
prices. The Indian consulate based in Jeddah initiated and distributed almost 15,000 kilogram of
required food items for the jobless Indians. Human Rights have criticized the visa offering
system of Saudi Arabia Government (BBC, 2016). On the other hand, some employees are also
not paid for their job responsibilities in last seven months.
Description and Response
It is highly important to talk about that the employees of the different construction
companies in Jeddah and across Saudi Arabia are becoming jobless due to several economic
issues. Low oil and gas price is actually affecting the sales growth rate of the corporations.
Therefore, the organizations are going for the cost-cutting approaches by considering the

employee termination aspects. Terminating Indian employees is actually helping the firms to
limit overall business operation cost as huge number of Indians used to work in the firms. This
termination is actually creating two different challenges for the community, such as economic as
well as social challenges. People are facing difficulty to consume foods. On the other hand, some
organizations also do not fulfil their promises by giving salary and compensation according to
the agreements or contracts.
It is identical that different employees are focused on effective financial position by doing
jobs in the firms of Saudi Arabia, but poor employment Visa system is actually affecting the
sustainability of the lives of employees as the employees hardly get any leave. On the other hand,
it is also important to mention that different organizations used to take passport of the employees
and do not return them until the contract of employment is over. These approaches are criticised
by the human right agencies. Ms. Sushma Swaraj has accepted the Indians in Saudi Arabia are
facing major problems. However, she also accepted that similar kind of challenges are being
faced by the Indians in other Middle-East countries, but he accepted that Saudi Arabia has less
sustainable approaches comparing to the other countries. The employees of Indian origins used
to get aid from the Indian government and embassies.
