PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance (By Research)

Objectives
o To produce scholars of international standing in Islamic banking and finance.
o To further develop and enhance the theory and practice of Islamic banking and
finance.
o To meet the demand for experts in Islamic banking and finance industry in
Malaysia and worldwide.
Areas of specialization
o Fiqh Muamalat in the Islamic banking and finance
o Islamic banking and finance law
o Performance and efficiency of Islamic banks and Takaful
o Economics policy and analysis of Islamic banking and finance
o Accounting for Islamic banking and finance
o Takaful and Re-Takaful
o Islamic financial and property management
o Islamic capital market
o Islamic Micro-Credit and Micro-Financing
o Corporate and Shariah governance for Islamic banking and finance
Admission requirements
o A good master degree in relevant disciplines from a recognised institution of
higher learning;
o Sufficient background and knowledge in relevant areas such as Fiqh Muamalat,
banking and finance; and
o Proficient in English Language (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550)
Duration of study
Full-time (Min: 2 years or 4 semesters, Max: 6 years or 12 semesters)
Part-time (Min: 3 years or 6 semesters, Max: 8 years or 16 semesters)
Mode of study
Students need to do their research proposal before enroll into the program. Once
the proposal has been approved, the students continue with their research until
the thesis is completed. The thesis will be examined by external examiner (s) who
will be appointed by the thesis committee. The thesis finally needs to be defended
to the examiner (s) and the thesis committee.
