THE MUSCULAR HEART

WEBERCISE

Lets learn more about the muscular heart from the Texas Heart Institute at
http://www.texasheart.org/ProjectHeart/Kids/Watch/watch.cfm.
Click on External Heart.
1. What is the heart?

2. Click on Internal Heart. Move your mouse cursor over this view of the heart. Find each part of the
heart in the diagram and write down its definition.

3. Click on The Blood. What the animation to learn about blood and answer the following questions.
a. What system is the heart in? And what other organs are a part of this system?
b. What is the purpose of this system?
c. What type of cell carries oxygen to the rest of the body?
4. Click on Oxygen Transfer. Draw the image on the screen of the arterioles and veins on the next page.
Label the arterioles and veins; draw the transfer of Oxygen O2 and Carbon Dioxide CO2 by clicking
on Step 1, and Step 2.

5. Click on External Heart. Click on Spin Heart.


Looking at the heart as it rotates, what ventricle do you notice is larger? Write in a complete sentence
what ventricle you think is larger and why you think it is larger based on what you learned.

6. Click Listen at the top of the page. Click on Resting Heart to hear the lub-dub of a resting heart.
What makes the lub-dub sound?

7. Click on Exercising Heart on the left side of the page. Why does the exercising heart beat faster?

8. Click Play at the top of the page. Click on Anatomy Puzzles. Click on the puzzle Heart Labels.
Before you click Start Puzzle, get out your phone, or a timer, and set the stop watch to 0. Click Start
Puzzle and at the same time start the stop watch. We are going to time how fast you can complete the
