Title of Unit: Weather

Overview of Unit Topic/Theme: a) Provide an overall picture of the unit of study; and b) identify key unit concepts (2 -5).
a) This unit will focus on the weather changes. Some of the topics covered include: temperature and the different types of weather (clouds, rain,
and wind).
b) In this unit, students will learn:
- About hot and cool temperatures
- Different types of cloud covers
- Different types of precipitation
- Different types of wind
Rationale for Unit: Why are you teaching this unit and how is it relevant to the students at this point in time?
I am teaching this unit at this time because weather is something that affects us every day. Students need to be able to understand the different types
of weather so they can properly dress for the day. Following the weather unit, we will be moving on to the seasons unit, and the unit on how living
things change to accommodate daily and seasonal changes. The unit of weather will help students to prepare for the units to follow.
List the Provincial Learning Outcomes (PLOs):

- Daily and seasonal changes affect all living things
Curricular Competencies:
- Demonstrate curiosity and a sense of wonder about the world
- Experience and interpret the local environment
- Discuss observations
-Weather changes
Language Competencies:
- Alejandro: Listening, speaking and writing.
- Mohammad: Listening, speaking and writing.
Language Standards:
Revised Sept 2015

- requires extensive support with content language
- uses limited vocabulary
- may give a single letter to represent a word
- generally understands vocabulary in everyday conversation
- uses content-specific language with some errors
- copies classroom notes with greater accuracy
Culminating Task(s): Briefly describe the culminating task(s) that will provide a demonstration and/or celebration of student learning.
Students will be creating a daily weather calendar/weather report for the entire school to see. Before creating this, students will be learning about the
different types of weather, and temperatures. I will have a meteorologist come into the classroom and give a presentation to the students before the
final project. They will be working on this final project with the help of their grade 7 buddies.
