Overview

Materials

Algebra II continues the studies of advanced algebraic concepts including

functions, polynomial and rational expressions, and systems of functions and
inequalities. Students will be expected to describe and translate among graphic,
algebraic, numeric, and verbal representations of relations and use those
representations to solve problems. Emphasis will be placed on practical
applications and modeling. Springboard curriculum, appropriate technology,
graphing calculators, and application software will be used regularly for
instruction and assessment. Upon successful completion of this course, students
will be prepared for pre-calculus and other higher-level mathematic courses.

You will need these for every lesson.

Scientific/Graphing Calculator
Pencils and erasers
Highlighters
Red/colored correcting pens
Graph paper/Notebook
Straightedge (ID ok)
Whiteboard Marker + Eraser
Binder for Math ONLY

Prerequisites

Behavior Expectations

Students are required to pass both semesters of Algebra 1 and Geometry in order
to be successful in Algebra 2. In addition, there are certain skills that students are
expected to already have mastered by the time they reach Algebra 2. If Algebra 1
skills are lacking, students are expected to seek additional help in tutorial. Be
responsible, be proactive, and work hard.

Sequence of Topics
Unit 1: Equations, Inequalities and Functions
Unit 2: Quadratic Functions
Unit 3: Polynomials
Unit 4: Series, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions
Unit 5: Radical and Rational Functions
Unit 6: Trigonometry

Electronic Policy
Electronic devices of any type will not be

the device after school from the teacher.
The second time, the device will go to Mr.
Gallegos. Parents will be notified if further

Grading Breakdown

Plagiarism/Cheating

Tests and Quizzes: Quizzes will occur on Mondays (some exceptions) and will
cover topics that have been taught in the unit up until that point. Tests occur at
the end of each unit. See the course schedule for exact dates. An announcement
will be given at least two days before any test. Please study the Embedded
Assessments in your Springboard textbook regularly. No questions will be
answered during any assessment. 20 points/quizzes, 50 points/tests.

Any form of cheating (plagiarism,

copying, allowing somebody to copy, etc)
is not tolerated and will result in the
following consequences:

Classwork and Homework: Classwork consists of any activities done during the
period with the Springboard materials. Homework is completed on a separate
piece of paper and collected randomly in packets. Homework is to be completed
in pencil, though solutions may be written in pen. All work must be shown in
order to receive full credit. No work, no credit.

Makeup/Late Work Policy

(1) Students are responsible for all that is missed when they are absent. All work
is due at the beginning of the period. Ask the teacher if you have questions. ANY
MISSING WORK IS A ZERO.
(2) Students are allowed one quiz re-take for a grade up to a 70%, based on
teacher discretion. All quiz-retakes must be completed within 1 week after
receiving back the original quiz. Students must complete test corrections in
advance of any re-takes. Students must sign up to re-take during tutorial and
must let the teacher know when they are re-taking ahead of time.
(3) Late work is NOT accepted. If you have an excused absence you will have
up to 2 days to turn in late work, depending on how long your excused absence
was. No excuses for late homework (i.e, forgot it at home, its in your locker, etc).

Remember I believe in you.

You are more than capable of meeting my expectations, but it doesnt
mean this class will be easy. I will push you to push yourself, and I will
support you in every way possible. In order to be successful and obtain
optimal results you need in this class, you MUST be proactive, attend
tutorial consistently, come prepared to ask questions, and communicate
with me often if you begin to struggle. No excuses will be accepted. I am
here to help you reach your highest potential and be successful in this
class, therefore you are expected to do your part and WORK HARD.
Go Rams!

(1) A score of ZERO.

(2) Whatever you are working on to
be thrown away. This includes
quizzes and tests. If the work is
from a student in another class,
the other teacher will be notified.
(3) The principal will be notified and
a record of cheating will be
recorded in student records.

Tutorial Passes
In order to receive extra help or makeup
up quizzes/tests during tutorial, you must
sign up for tutorial directly with Ms.
Voinea. Expect to stay the entirety of the
tutorial period and be working on Algebra
II assignments. You will be asked to leave
if you are socializing & not working on
math assignments.

Daily Participation
Read directions up front and be prepared
with all required materials when the bell
rings, otherwise you will be marked tardy.
You must stay in your assigned seat the
entire period, although you will usually be
given a 5-10 minute break in the middle of
the period.
I will be doing regular checks for
understanding during class time with
whiteboards, therefore bring your
whiteboard markers and erasers with you
every single class. We will also do
unannounced Exit Tickets/Pop quizzes
regularly to check understanding.

Note to students:
My goal for the remainder of the semester is to help you learn and be successful. Although this may not be easy, I
believe that all of you can succeed. Please come to me with any questions that you have so we can make your learning
experience as beneficial as possible.
Please do not wait until the very last minute to ask for help. Schedule appointments with me if you deem it necessary
(24 - 48 hours advance notice for all before/after school meetings please), and attend tutorial regularly if you need help.
Note to Parents/Guardians:
I would like to see each of my students be successful and confident in this math class, and I am looking forward to
working with you to make this happen. As stated in this syllabus, students will have homework everyday and the
assignments will be recorded in the grade book every week. Please encourage your student to complete their
homework, as it is vital to their success on tests, quizzes, and in class. You will be able to view your students grades
online and verify that homework is being completed. If possible, E-mail is the most efficient way to reach me. Please
email me with questions or concerns (please do not wait until the end of the semester). I look forward to
