Mr. Mangan IB2 ESS 10 January 2017 Ozone Layer Lab Graph
1. According to your graph at which altitude is the concentration of Ozone
the greatest? 20 2. In which layer of the atmosphere is the highest concentration of Ozone found? Stratosphere 3. Why is the Ozone Layer important to life on Earth? It protects us from the harmful UV light of the sun like sunscreen. 4. Describe how the Ozone layer was put in danger? Humans were creating products with chemicals that contain chlorine atoms that attack the Ozone and so it was breaking down or thinning. 5. What was the human reaction to this problem? In 1989 the United Nations created the Montreal Protocol so that countries could comply and create ozone friendly products instead of harmful ones.
6. Describe how the idea of Dynamic Equilibrium can be applied to the
Ozone layer? A dynamic equilibrium requires a balance of chemicals. Once more harmful chemicals were introduced to the Ozone layer there was a lack of balance because the chlorine was attacking the ozone faster than the ozone could regenerate, thus causing an imbalance.
