Geographical position
Arges is located in the upper basin of the legendary river with the same name, the cunty is
surrounded to the North by the ridge of the Fagaras Mountain, of the peak of Moldoveanu and
Negoiu and at South of Campia Romana. So, from North to South there are found the all three
forms of structures : mountains, hills and fields.
Arges county area is 6800 square kilometers, which is 2.9% of the total area of the country and
the number of its inhabitants is 663.206. They are distributed in three important cities (Pitesti,
Cmpulung-Muscel and Curtea de Arges), four cities (Mioveni, Topoloveni, Costeti and
tefneti) and 95 villages. County capital is the city of Pitesti, (also known as the "The City of
Tulips"). This locality is representative in terms of blending traditional values with European
aspirations of the Romanian community.

The level of economic development
Arges County has a well developed and diversified economy, a result of the efforts of the local
authorities to modernize and performance, including ensuring an attractive business climate. It
had so attracted a substantial flow of investment both from domestic private sector and the
external one, which targeted both industry, agriculture and services. In industry, economic
activity is conducted in 22 602 active companies by ownership, including: 12 526 active
commercial companies, 3,629 family associations and 6.447 independent persons.
Agricultural area,a total of 344 765 ha, is operated as follows: 339 609 ha in agricultural private
use, 5.156 ha in the state sector.

Pitesti "is the main foreign investment in Arges county and one of the largest nationwide.
The county has a GDP per capita of 7450 euro, with 9% than medium, stated by Ziarul Financiar.
135.280 of employees were registered in the county in 2013, these were the latest informations
given by the National Institute of Statistics, with a growth of 2700 from the previous year. Their
distribution shows that most of them were working in constructions and industry(over 68.000
people), and over 65.000 employees work in the srvices field, and the rest of them were working
in agriuture.
The rate of unemployment at the end of the year was 6.7%. The number of unemployed was
18,500, stated by the National Agency of the Labour Force.
