Symbolism
Lenas Plant
Most plants represent beauty. The plant in the Raisin in the Sun is a dream of a big garden. Lenas plant is important
and it represents a dream also the future of the Younger family.

Money 1
To Walter Lee money is a symbol of happiness. Ruth, Travis, and Asagai sees money as way to get through life but it
doesnt buy or give happiness. Beneatha first thinks money is happiness but realizes later that money is not happiness.
George Murchison see that money is a way to live.

George Murchisons white shoes and Asagais Nigerian robes

Georges shoes are plain but Asagais Nigerian robes is filled with character. Georges shoes tell us he doesnt have
creative dreams. His values are little because doesnt put creativity or thought into it. George is a man who doesnt want
unique things.
Asagais robes tell us that his dreams are creative and colorful. He is a unique and one of a kind of person. Asagai
values dreams, knowledge, and happiness.

Themes
The Strength of Family
The Younger family keep its family members because of their loyalty, dedication for one another, and support each other
at their hardest times. Its hard to be a member in that family because they depend on each other heavily for a shoulder
to cry on, to share laughter and smiles, and to support one another through each other hardships.

Confl icting Expectations 1

* I think my time in A Raisin in the Sun means its their time to shine or to be heard. My proof is from A Raisin in the
Sun Walter says to Ruth Thats it. There you are. Man say to his woman: I got me a dream. His woman say: Eat you
eggs. (Sadly, but gaining in power.) Man say: I got to take hold of this here world, baby! And a woman will say: Eat your
eggs and go to work. (Passionately now.) Man say: I got to change my life, Im choking to death baby! And his woman say
(in utter anguish as he brings his fist down on his thighs) Your eggs is getting cold (page 494 to 495)! Walter is telling
Ruth that he has a chance to shine and she is not saying anything that shows support. Each of the characters are
trying to show or tell each other how they can do something big like Beneatha becoming a doctor, Walter investing into a
liquor store, or Mama getting a new house. My time is a dream that is precious to that person but no one will never
understand that dream except the dreamer.

Confl icting Expectations 2

* My Time is a positive and negative connotation because it can be a life saver or it can be failure. My proof for a
negative connotation is from A Raisin in the Sun when Walter was imaging that he was talking to Willy THAT MONEY IS
MADE OUT OF MY FATHERS FLESH (pg. 561). My proof for a positive connotation is from A Raisin in the Sun when
Walter is talking to Travis Ill go inside and Ruth will come downstairsI hand you the World (pg. 547)! My evidence for
a positive connotation is the word world because Walter is telling Travis he will do anything to give his family a better life
for them and he will conquer the world to make that happen. My evidence for a negative connotation is Money because
Walter gave his fathers life insurance money to Willy and after Walter found out that Willy took that money. He realized
how precious that money was because that money was only there by his fathers death. Everything has a positive or
negative connotation in it just how you see it.

* My Time does conflict with others because it can make people selfish. My proof is from A Raisin in the Sun when
Mama (to Walter): Son- (She goes to him, bends down to him, talks to his bent head) Son Is it gone? Son, I gave you
sixty-five hundred dollars. Is it gone? All of it? Beneathas money too?.... Walter: Yessss! All of it . . . Its all gone. . .
(pg.561) Based on my proof when Walter never went to the bank to put Beneathas school money away instead he gave
all the money away to investing into liquor stores. Walter didnt think for Beneatha or for the rest of the younger family
but for himself. My Time sometimes make people selfish and they must learn the hard way.

Love and Trust > Deceit and Selfi shness

* I think love wins in A Raisin in the Sun because in the darkest time there is light. My proof is from A Raisin in the Sun

when Mama says to Beneatha, There is always something left to love. And if you ain't learned that, you ain't learned
nothing......Make sure you done taken into account what hills and valleys he come through before he got to wherever he
is (page 573). Second piece of proof is from Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi when Luke Skywalker was about
to be killed by the Darth Sidious. Darth Vader (Lukes Father) made a choice to sacrifice himself to save Luke and Darth
Vader became the hero in the end like the prophecy said. My first proof tells us even when someone does wrong you
should still show compassion to them because the guilt of what they did is eating them alive. Second piece of proof tells
us even when someone does something wrong will do something good in the end in the name of love. Love will win if
there is someone with the compassion to show that love.

* I also think love doesnt always win in the end because there are somethings you just cant forgive or show

compassion too. My proof is Gone with the Wind when Scarlett didnt love Rhett and Rhett loved her but in the end
Scarlett loves Rhett and Rhett doesnt love Scarlett in return. My proof tells us that love is delicate and if you dont show
that love quick enough you will never have it. Love doesnt win in everything because some dont deserve it in the end
like others.

Stereotyping and Prejudice

Ann Nelson
The stereotypes Mr. Lindner display is that African Americans take advantage of people and poor. These stereotypes are
caused because other people gave African Americans less opportunities like education, jobs, homes, and more. The
Characters feel angry, threatened, and unyielding. The committee of Clybourne Park could have avoided doing this but
they wouldnt because in that period it was normal to do that.
