Saw Promoting Safety and Comfort: Range-of-Motion Exercises.
2. Practiced hand hygiene.
3. Identified the person. Checked the ID (identification) bracelet
against the assignment sheet. Used 2 identifiers. Also called the
person by name.
4. Obtained a bath blanket.
5. Provided for privacy.
6. Raised the bed for body mechanics. Bed rails were up if used.

Procedure
7. Lowered the bed rail near you if up.
8. Positioned the person supine.
9. Covered the person with a bath blanket. Fan-folded top linens to
the foot of the bed.
10. Exercised the neck if allowed by your agency and if the nurse
instructed you to do so.
a. Placed your hands over the persons ears to support the head.
Supported the jaw with your fingers.
b. Flexionbrought the head forward. The chin touched the chest.
c. Extensionstraightened the head.
d. Hyperextensionbrought the head backward until the
chin pointed up.
e. Rotationturned the head from side to side.
f. Lateral flexionmoved the head to the right and to the left.
g. Repeated flexion, extension, hyperextension, rotation, and
lateral flexion 5 timesor the number of times stated
on the care plan.
11. Exercised the shoulder.
a. Grasped the wrist with 1 hand. Grasped the elbow
with the other hand.
b. Flexionraised the arm straight in front and over the head.
c. Extensionbrought the arm down to the side.
d. Hyperextensionmoved the arm behind the body.

or was standing.)
