Statement of Purpose for Admission in

MS Thermal Sciences (Mechanical Engineering)

I am required to send a statement of purpose for admissions to MS (Program) in
Mechanical engineering. I feel that today's energy importance and growing pollution is putting
pressure on organizations to be more energy efficient and reduce emissions. I want to
Participate in design & research that actively seeks such energy-efficient solutions. My master's
degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on Thermal and Fluid Science would be a
very important step in this direction. An enormous number of challenges, thrown out by rapid
development in Science and technology have made me choose engineering profession. I take
this opportunity to describe my educational background and career objectives that motivated me
to pursue a MS in thermal sciences in Mechanical engineering. I completed my bachelors
degree in Mechanical Engineering examination scoring first class from JNTU Hyderabad;
Hyderabad.
My graduate education has provided a thorough exposure to the various specialties
available in Mechanical Engineering, thus stimulating interest in Masters program to enhance
my skills to the next level.
In my graduate years and during past 17 years of work experience, I've acquired a
strong background in the fundamentals of the basic mechanical engineering subjects like
thermodynamics, Heat and Mass transfer, Solid Mechanics, Fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM,
Mechanics of Machines, Design of machine elements etc. I have also had enough good
experience in Heat and mass transfer techniques as working with global leader in steam
Engineering (SpiraxSarco-UK) since last five years at Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and executed
many projects. Apart from this experience I have enough good experience working with
Engineering consultants, manufacturing plants.
Mr. Abdul Razzaq Khan (1996 year MS student of KFUPM) was my teacher for Energy
Transfer during my career since last five (5) years of Heat and mass transfer engineering. He
introduced us to the topic on green house and got me interested in topics such as energy
conversion and heat transfer. His passion for his subject, the subject content and style of
teaching strengthened my understanding of this subject. A very clear prospective for these
subjects is one of the major reasons for my interest in these subjects. He is also my reporting
manager is an ex- MS student (thermal sciences) of KFUPM in 1996 year. He is my role model
to learn new things/knowledge in career & life.
Thermal and Fluid Sciences has fascinated my interest during my Graduate study and
in relation to that I had successfully designed and executed a no of projects in steam and

condensate projects. I would like to pursue Masters Studies in specialized Thermal fields like
Combustion, Heat and Mass Transfer, Computational Fluid Dynamics in a committed manner
and I am confident of contributing considerably to the growth of this field.
Through my Master's education, I want to acquire a profound understanding of the
stochastic behavior of turbulent flow fields and learn about the various models which help
anticipate this behavior in different physical scenarios. I want to know the extent to which the
analytical methods can be employed in fluid flow analysis and augment my knowledge of
numerical modeling of turbulent flow problems. Furthermore, acquiring a better understanding of
turbulence would also be instrumental in the analysis of the propagation of the flame front and
its effect on the flow of various media in Heat exchangers and Engines and in modeling the swirl
patterns.
I attended a seminar/advanced training in steam engineering organized by Spirax Sarco
- UK (Global leaders in steam Engineering Company) discussing the topics exclusive on
advanced steam engineering principles and various latest technological developments and
products. This event got me more interested in de super heaters, Thermo compressors
Systems, mostly emphasizing on how to reduce carbon foot print and to reduce water
consumption through efficient energy recovery. I am more Curious and about how the solar
energy can be utilized and applied in it.
I wish to work with KFUPM of Engineering and Veteran professors in the field of
thermodynamics especially in Thermo acoustic and Thermal Energy Transport like steam &
synthetic oils, as my passion for Thermodynamics, particularly toward industrial process
heating, cooling, Refrigeration, Cryogenics, HVAC and Thermal Energy Storage. Further I am
keen to work on new technologies like Thermo acoustic Heat Engine and Heat Pump, New
applications of Stirling Engine, Pulse Tube Refrigerator and Micro Heat and Power Systems.
Browsing through the information brochure and the University's home page I feel that
the Masters Graduate Study at the KFUPM holds a lot of promise to me. The breadth and depth
of the courses coupled with a stimulating environment seem to me the right mix for seminal
work and pioneering in this domain.
I sincerely hope to have an opportunity to join and associate with your
esteemed University to contribute my best towards making a successful Masters program
endeavor.
Keeping this in mind, joining your esteemed University seems to me as an excellent first step.
Thanking you very much for your kind consideration.
