Up and above anything else, all praises to almighty ALLAH alone, the
omnipotent, the omnipresent, the most merciful and most compassionate. And
after almighty ALLAH to his prophet, MUHAMMAD (PBUH), the most perfect and
exalted, who is forever a source of guidance and knowledge for humanity as a
whole.
We express our deepest sense of gratitude to MR. ASIF FAROOKI, CEO of
Waste Busters, Miss Zillay Mariam, Gulfam Abid and Muhammad Moeen Rasool,
Cooperate Liaison Manager, Assistant Manager HSE, Assistant Manager QC for
their cooperation, patience and their precious time.
With their assistance this project was completed. Their constant helped enabled
us to treat this work objectively and comprehensively. This arduous job was
impossible without their able guidance.
And finally we pay regards to our parents, brothers, sisters and friends who have

Waste Busters started in 1994 in Lahore under the Lahore Sanitation Program.
In 1996 Mr. Asif Farooki named this organization as Waste Busters. The capacity
of the plant 50 tons a day. Daily input of waste 20 ton per day. The magnitude of
industrial waste 5 to 6 lakhs kgs per month. .Normally most of the work is been
done by the machines during production only visible sorting is done manually by

INDUSTRIAL WASTE COLLECTION:

We provide special services for industrial waste depending upon the type of waste. We
cater to the needs of our industrial clients by tailoring the system to meet their
requirements.
This includes placement of large waste container on the factory premises which is lifted

DOOR-TO-DOOR WASTE COLLECTION:
Waste Busters has introduced the concept of door-to-door collection of household
garbage for the first time in Pakistan.
Upon subscription, our smart workers would come to your house everyday between
9am to 2pm and collect the garbage bag filled with your daily waste. We shall provide

then we will already be on a path to a greener future
Waste Busters will provide sample coloured bags for paper and recyclable.
Convert your existing bins into recycling ones by using our recycling stickers.
Monthly waste collection package offer for institutions and offices.
Weekly Collection of paper and recyclables only. Waste Busters will buy the waste from
you accordingly.
Bulk waste collection of paper and recyclables from institutions/offices will be bought by
the company.
Any solid waste to be removed from your houses/institutions/offices
All the recycled material is weighed so that you can come to know how much
recyclables are being generated.

Waste Busters has facilities for treatment and disposal of hospital waste according to the
waste categories.

HOTEL & RESTAURANT WASTE MANAGEMENT

Microbial contamination not only spoils the food but is highly precarious for health. In order to
maintain healthy environment, proper clean up is required. Waste Busters provide a complete
package of kitchen waste disposal from your site. Every waste is ensured to be properly
disposed of rather than thrown in open dumps for the scavenger birds to attack and spread
diseases.

3. Disposals pattern /method

Composting
Composting is the biological decomposition of organic waste such as food or plant material by
bacteria, fungi, worms and other organisms under controlled aerobic (occurring in the
presence of oxygen) conditions. The end result of composting is an accumulation of partially
decayed organic matter called humus. Composting with worms, also known as vermiculture,
results in nutrient-loaded worm castings.

INTERNSHIP REPORT
Types of composting
1) cold composting
Regular composting, also known as cold composting, involves placing a variety of
organic materials in a compost bin, enclosure, or even just in a large heap, and leaving
it there until it breaks down several months later. Its a very slow process and typically
takes 6 to 12 months. It can be sped up by turning the compost that is, moving around
the material at the bottom of the heap to the top and vice versa to mix it up and get
more oxygen in there but its still a long wait.
2) Hot composting:
The other approach to composting is hot composting, which produces compost in a much
shorter time. It has the benefits of killing weed seeds and pathogens (diseases), and
breaking down the material into very fine compost. In contrast, cold composting does not
destroy seeds, so if you cold compost weeds, any weed seeds will grow when you put the
compost into the garden.
Comparison between cold and hot:
Cold composting does not destroy pathogens either, so if you put diseased plants
into
your cold compost, the diseases may spread into the garden, hence the common advice
not to (cold) compost diseased plants. The other issue with cold composting is that you end
up with lots of large pieces left over in the compost when the process is completed,
whereas hot compost looks like fine black humus (soil).

Berkeley method:
One hot composting method, the Berkeley method, developed by the University of
California, Berkley, is a fast, efficient, high-temperature, composting technique which will
produce high quality compost in 18 days.
The requirements for hot composting using the Berkley method are as follows:
1. Compost temperature is maintained between 55-65 degrees Celsius
2. The C:N (carbon: nitrogen) balance in the composting materials is approximately 2530:1
3. The compost heap needs to be roughly 1.5m high
4. If composting material is high in carbon, such as tree branches, they need to be broken
up, such as with a mulcher
5. Compost is turned from outside to inside and vice versa to mix it thoroughly

With the 18 day Berkley method, the procedure is quite straightforward:

1. Build compost heap
2. 4days no turning
3. Then turn every 2nd day for 14 days

Bioremediation
Bioremediation is the use of microorganisms to destroy or immobilize waste materials
Microorganisms include:
Bacteria (aerobic and anaerobic)
Fungi
Actinomycetes (filamentous bacteria)
Bioremediation mechanism
Microorganisms destroy organic contaminants in the course of using the chemicals for their
own growth and reproduction Organic chemicals provide: carbon, source of cell building
material electrons, source of energy Cells catalyze oxidation of organic chemicals (electron
donors), causing transfer of electrons from organic chemicals to some electron acceptor

6. Summary of Our Work:

Working in waste buster was a real pleasure and once in a life time learning
experience for me. The team in waste buster was so cooperative and friendly
that they gave me a free hand to do what we want to do .we were allowed for
all sections of the factory to go and check all the operations there. They gave
me all the time to learn and gain from them as much as we could. I worked in
all the sections two week in composting two in RDF two in solid waste
management also perform lab testing QC & environmental lab.

All in all, it was a good all round learning activity for me. We worked with zeal
and devotion and kept the faith of our teachers and industry management
which they had on me. The excellent thing about waste buster was that they
never treated me as an internee they always gave the same respect to me
which they give to their other working staff.

Now at the end we are very confident to say that we had a good practical
experience of solid waste Management; Composting; Bioremediation ;RDF

7. Outcomes

Our internship at waste buster was a good experience from learning point of view.
We learnt many things that we have just theoretically studied in literature. The thing
which we observed during our internship period is that there is a big difference in
practical and theoretical life and this may be due to some different factors and
external environment.
Internship also helped me in improving our analytical skills. During my study we just
theoretically studied about different instruments and their operations but after my
internship now we have full command on these equipments. During my internship
period we also learnt team work that how team efforts made all the work easy and
successful. In any industry team work is very important factor that play important in
success of any industry. Now, we also have full command in performing different
test in lab and in solution preparations. Now all these things were a part of my
cognitive learning.
