CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
A. Background of the paper
When we talk about the grammar of a language then that comes to mind
ishow to arrange the words contained in the language into a series of meaningful,
which can understood both by the speakers and the hearing. Therefore, learn grammar
in English is to learn how to use the word in a standard sentence patterns in English.
Adverbial clause is one of the grammar in English, which is very important to make a
standard sentence in English.
CHAPTER II
DISCUSSION
A. Definition Adverbial Clause
An Adverb clause is a dependent clause used as an adverb within a sentence
to indicate: time, place, condition, contrast, manner, comparison,that, reason, purpose,
or result. Also known as an adverbial clause.
An adverb clause begins with a subordinating conjunction (such as if, when, because,
or although) and usually includes a subject and a predicate
B. Kind of Adverbial Clause
1. AVC of Comparison
This kind of adverbial clause compares an attribute thats common to the
subject of the main clause. Used for adverbial clause of comparison are the
conjunctions as...as, than,and as .
Example:
a. She works as hard as her husband (works). [subject retained]
b. She desires happiness more than (she desires) wealth. [object retained]
c. He is getting better than (he was) yesterday. [adverb retained]
2. AVC of Condition
This kind of adverbial clause states an expected consequence of an assumed
counterfactual condition in main clause. Used for adverbial clause of condition are
the conjunction if, unless .

3. AVC of Manner
This kind of adverbial clause specifies how something is done or accomplished by
comparing it to the manner or way similar action in the main clause. Used for
adverbial clause of manner are the conjunction :

5. AVC of Place
This kind of adverbial clause incates where the action in the main clause takes
placer or indicate the position of something- whether the subject or object in the
main clause. Used for adverbial clause of place are the conjunction, where, there,
wherever .

g) Admitted that what you say is true, still there is much to be said for the other
side.
