Introduction
This document describes step-by-step instructions for integration of a RBS
3x06 and single cell 3303 Node Bs.
Objective
This document serves a purpose of describing all procedures related to the
commissioning and integration of a RBS 3206, RBS 3106 and 3303
Prerequisites
Complete RBS carry-in, installation, and check power system according to
the following instructions.
1/1531-COH 109 2069 Uen Rev B. Installation Instructions RBS 3206
1/1531-COH 109 2074 Uen Rev B. Installation Instructions RBS 3106
1/1531-COH 109 548 Uen Rev D. Installation Instructions RBS 3303
Note: The revisions indicated above are the latest revision of the documents at the time this
instruction was created. Always refer to the latest revision of the Installation Instructions.
5.1
Hardware
The latest RBS Software Packages has been downloaded from http://ecdocs.ericy.com/ and stored locally. Commissioners/installers must follow
the correct supported upgrade paths. The scripts will be delivered by
Ericsson.
Hardware
Configuration
In this document the following notation is used for commands.
$ telogread
This would mean that you should enter te <space key> log <space key>
read and then press <enter key>. $ appears when you open a serial
connection and press the return key.

Cabling between the Thin Client and RBS. Ethernet connection is made from
the laptop to M1 on the connection Field of UMTS RBS 3206/3106). For the
3303 there is a short 100mm, RJ45 to Emily connector inserted in the GPB in
slot position 4.

7.1
This activity must be performed at each new site as the site IP addresses are uniquely
numbered.
7.2
7.3
7.4
Right click on the Local Area Connection icon and select <Properties> from
the drop down menu.
The "Local Area Connection Properties" window will open.
7.5
The Laptop PC IP Address is set in this window using the following process,
NOTE: The IP address of the Laptop PC (thin client) cannot be the same
as the Ethernet IP address of the RBS node.
Networking convention dictates that the commissioning laptop (thin client)
address is equal to the RBS Node Ethernet address incremented by one.
Example (Site specific IP address (i.e. site 434)

Note: As detailed in this procedure the RBS 3000 will be placed into a
BACKUP mode, this is an 'idle' mode where the RBS is in a state where it is
not in service or executing any of it's own processes.
Force the RBS into BACKUP mode using the commands in the serial window
below,
$ reload- -
The expected response that will be contained in the serial window is Stop
due to remain in backup set
Now format the RBS hard disks using the following commands, responding
with Y when prompted to continue. Note: All data on the hard disk will be
destroyed.
$ formathd/d
$ formathd/c2
Y
Y
Once the second format command has completed enter the following
command
$ reload- -
The expected response that will be contained in the serial window is Stop
due to remain in backup set
8.2
With the RBS 3000 is in the BACKUP mode, proceed to the next section to
set the RBS 3000 Ethernet IP address, using the following format.
NOTE: For this information Refer to the <RBS>html document that is
delivered with the scripts.
$ ifconfig le0 <RBS IP_address> netmask <RBS sub-netmask_address>
e.g. $ ifconfigle010.32.91.45netmask255.255.255.252
Verify the IP address that has been input by using the following command, the
reply will show the IP address information that has been set. If the information
is incorrect set the IP address again.
$ ifconfig
interface: le0
ip-address: 10.32.91.45
subnetmask: 255.255.255.252
broadcast: 10.32.91.47
Example printout following the 'ifconfig' command.
8.3
Specify the password for access to the RBS node with the following
commands in the serial window.
$ passwd
$ rbs (No output in serial window)
$ rbs (No output in serial window)
9.1
9.2
Open a Command Prompt window from the Start Up Menu on your laptop,
and type ping followed by the RBS IP address.
Example: C:\> ping10.32.91.45
The expected response will be 0% loss
9.3
Start WS-FTP form your laptop, and configure the FTP session for your RBS.
In the Sessions Properties window select New
For Profile Name, enter RBS site number.
For Host Name/Address, enter NodeB IP Address.
For User name, enter rbs.
9.4
9.5
Set the path in the Local System window to point to the Basic Package being
loaded: Example C:\CXP9010390_Rxxx\hard_disk,
In the folder hard_disk 2 folders exist, they are c2 and d.
Delete path displayed in the remote file on the top right hand side and
enter / (forward slash) and press enter.
Confirm that the folder structure displayed on the left side and the right side
are the same c2 and d
Disable log. Options General Uncheck Enable log.
From the left display, select folder c2 and d, and press button in the middle
of the display, a pop up window will appear Do you want to transfer the
selected folders and their contents? click Yes, this will start the file transfer.
This should only take about 5 to 10 minutes.
After the transfer is complete check that the files shown in both windows are
the same and then exit WS- FTP.
9.6
Perform a reload.
$reload
Ensure the RBS starts in Basic mode Starting configuration version =
rbs_basic_cv. You will then need to wait until you see IOR displayed in the
serial window before continuing, this can take up to 4 minutes.
Follow the table below and check the LED status of each board.

A new CV (OAM_CV) will be created and set as startable.
13
13.1
At this point we need to verify that the T1Transmission link is working from the
RNC to the RBS, this can be achieved by the following steps.
13.2
Check that the RBS is getting synchronization from the RNC. It needs to
achieve synchronization before the Site Equipment Configuration Wizard is
started, to avoid unnecessary instability in the Node. To do this we need to
get the system clock in the RBS to LOCKED MODE.
13.3
With the T1 link already disconnected at the transmission equipment (or at the
RBS connection field) continue with the following commands.
In the serial window type
$ telogclear
Reconnect the T1 link to the transmission equipment (or RBS connection
field).
After 1 minute, in the serial window type
$ telogread
In the printout log you can see whether the RBS is in LOCKED MODE.
Look for:
INFO:Status/Stability of RBS distributed clocks changed to lockedMode
Note: If this is not visible in the trace and error (te) log, then you will need to
insert the RJ45 loop back plug in position K1 on the RBS connection field, to
achieve locked mode.
Wait until all the boards now have solid green LEDs.
Example
At this point you need to liaise with the RDC/RNC Support engineers to verify
that you have connection from the RNC, to the RBS, over the T1 Link.
Break the link at the transmission equipment and use a RJ45 loop back plug
towards the RNC. Confirm the link becomes enabled and proceed to the next
step.

configuration data should be present in the different fields.
Check that the data shown matches the RBS configuration you are
commissioning.

Before beginning the hardware testing (i.e. test calls, external alarms etc.) the
Node must he upgraded to the latest revision of software deployed in the
network.
The RNC engineer may carryout this software upgrade for you (the site must
be attached to OSS-RC for this functionality to be available).
17.2
If the RNC engineer is unable to carryout this software upgrade, you can
follow the procedure detailed below to upgrade the RBS software on site.
Remember to start your FTP Server software on your laptop.
17.3
Uploading the Upgrade Package (UP) to the RBS 3000. From the main EMAS
window, select <Maintenance>, <Software>, <Upgrade Packages>, and
then click <Install>.
