To Whom It May Concern:

This letter pertains to Kayla Franklin, a seminar student at National University whom I taught in

fall of 2016.

I have known Kayla for several months now as she has been working through her student

teaching program with National University. Kayla has shown a high level of competency as a future
educator and I would not hesitate to hire her.

I have seen videos of Kayla during the student teaching process and she not only encourages

critical thinking from her students, but teaches with great passion and energy. Kayla plays the role of
teacher as facilitator in the classroom, her students are engaged in the work using groups to find
solutions and reflect, and she has been one of my top students for participation and ideas in the
classroom. As far as Common Core goes, Kayla has the process of student-centered work down to a
science, she is genuine and cares about students, yet knows how to get our youth engaged and learning
by applying real world material and scenarios to students. She even uses games to enhance learning,
there is definitely a lot of creativity embedded within her planning which centers around student
learning.

Kayla has shown that she can not only create engaging plans for an active classroom, but that

she understands the need to differentiate and ensure every student in her class is successful.

Please let me know if you have any questions about Kayla.

Sincerely,

Tim Calver
