Level Control of Quadruple Tank

System
Using Particle Swarm Optimized
SOSMC

Abstract- The quadruple tank system is a classical benchmark level control problem that illustrates some of the
complex dynamics encountered in process control industry such as non-linearity, inter-loop interactions and multivariable characteristics. In this paper, a particle swarm optimized second order sliding mode controller is proposed. To
prevent the wind-up action observed with the proposed controller which operates on integral action, an anti-wind-up
mechanism is also proposed. The performance of the proposed controller is validated by implementing it on a laboratory
scale experimental set-up. It is observed that the proposed strategy results in a superior transient and steady state
performance and also expends less control effort when compared with second order sliding mode controller.
