A. Learning Objectives
Students able to develop attitude relevant to biology such as:
1.Concern accuracy and precision
2.Integrity
3.Enquiry
Expected characteristics:
(example: honesty, tolerance, democratic, communicative, responsible)

D. Learning Activities
E.
Main Stages
Time/Duration
Introduction/Warm Up-Lead In:
10-15
1) Motivation and Apperception:
minutes
Greeting
Praying
The story of Gregory Mendel and his experiments
The implication of first and second law of Mendel
The question about the probability of traits pattern in offspring
2)
Prerequisite/Previous knowledge:
Student should know
know the double helical structure of DNA and that chromosomes
are packages of
DNA found in the nucleus of cells.
know that DNA contains genetic information for all living things.
know that alleles are alternate forms of a gene and are found on
the same location on homologous chromosomes
have a basic understanding of cell division in body cells as well as
in gamete formation.
understand why sexual reproduction leads to variety of offspring.
know that flowering plants reproduce sexually.
Main Activities/Step by Step Procedures:
60- 70
1) Exploration
minutes
Probing the student with questions such as
Ask students the main stages of a cell cycle
Ask students what the essential difference is between meiosis and
mitosis
Show students onion cell pictures to identify the phases and stages
in cell division
2) Elaboration
Introduce the stages and phases:
Nuclear division: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
Teach students the key events in two stages of mitotic division
Identify the stages and phases in cell division
Consolidate knowledge on mitotic cell division
Describe the stages of gap and synthesis phase
Differentiate between mitosis and meiosis
Describe
3) Confirmation
To check the understanding of the students about cell division using
questions such as: What should I think first when I think about cell
division?
What happen in the prophase and by the way How do I know it is a
first stage?
What is the different between prophase meiosis I and meiosis II
Closing / Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):
10-15
The importance of chromosome segregation during prophase in
minutes
meiosis and mitosis
Review again the stages and phases in meiosis and mitosis
Consolidate the knowledge on mitotic cell division.
Remind the students for daily test (formal assessment)
Encourage the students to read all the chapter before next meeting
discussion.
