Installation instructions for WINXP INPA in VMware

1.

Install VMware workstation V8 software on your computer using the serial number provided.
Note: de-select the checkboxes check for product updates on start up & help improve VMware

2.

Run the VMware workstation program.

3.

On the main menu bar go to Edit > Virtual Network Editor. Change the IP settings of VMnet1 to exactly the same
settings that appear in the screenshot below. Click apply and ok.

4.

On the home menu select open a Virtual machine. Navigate to the WINXP INPA folder on your computer and select
the WINXP INPA.vmx configuration file. Then Click open.

5.

Select the WINXP INPA tab in VMware and click power on this virtual machine to start the boot process. A message
will now appear saying This virtual machine might have been moved or copied. Click I copied it.

6.

Once booted. Connect your INPA cable to your car and to a spare USB port on your computer. If this is the first time you
have connected the cable to your computer it will now start installing the drivers on your host operating system (the one
your computer boots up on). After drivers have installed on your host check that the cable USB icon at bottom right of
the VMware window goes active. If it remains greyed out it means it is inactive so what you need to do is right click on
the icon and select connect (disconnect from host). It should then become active and start installing the cable drivers
within VMware.

7.

Go to full screen mode.

8.

Open device manager using icon on desktop. Go to the ports section. Right click on the USB serial port and go to
properties > port settings > advanced. Change COM port to COM4 and change latency timer to 1 (if message appears
saying com port is already in use just click yes to continue).
Note: if you are unsure see the video How to set up COM port.avi.

9.

Now run INPA from icon on desktop.

ONLY when you need to connect to a DCAN BMW made after year 2007 you have to run "DCAN.exe" before
you start INPA. Run DCAN.exe from icon on the desktop, select COM4 & click on "D-CAN & PT-CAN" button
and wait until you see "Done" and close the application. You will need to click on that button right after you
connect the cable to the USB and to the car OBD port and it must be done within 30 seconds (while led is lit on the
cable OBD plug). Note: some cables may already be set up for DCAN.
Advice Note
Once you have installed your cable and for the first time you should not have to do it again the next time you start the INPA
VMware image. All you have to do next time is:
a) Power up WINXP INPA VMware image.
b) Connect INPA cable to car and computer. Ensure its icon goes active (if not active right click on icon at bottom
right of VMware window and select connect (disconnect from host).
c) Start the INPA program.
