The Waterside hosts “One Bad Apple”

September 2009
Murder Mystery Dinner
Within the first few minutes of the play the murder had occurred. You Murder Mystery Dinner 1
could hear the whispering amongst the crowd, “What happened, who did it?”.
Was it the Mayor Gertrude “Granny” Smith or the “go green” activist Gloria, or Community Member- 2

The Murder Mystery evening “One Bad Apple” presented by Ottawa Valley Highlighted Activities- 2
Little Theatre was a wonderful success. The cocktail hour began with Community September 2009
Members and guests arriving in Paddles Pub to enjoy wine and cheese around 5:00
p.m. After some time spent mingling all 80 guests were seated in the dinning room Victory Garden 2
to watch the mystery unfold before their very eyes. A gourmet meal was prepared

Community Member Profile September 2009: Merton and Melva Glenn
The Glenn’s are two of the original Community Member’s who
moved into the Waterside when the building first opened its doors back
in December 2008. Now with a whole year almost under their belts,
Merton and Melva are two of the most active Community Members in
the building. You can find this pair in the V!VA gym daily on the strength
training equipment or at an exercise class, weekly attending the Oldies
Re-runs and other assorted movie nights, and just puttering around
helping other Community and Team Members with whatever needs to
be done. Merton and Melva rarely miss one of our bus adventures ei-
ther. Melva especially likes when we go on the “back roads”, the more
winding, the better.
Last month, Merton and Melva celebrated their 54th wedding an-
niversary. The couple met at a card party in Bristol, QC and were mar-
ried 3 years later in Aylmer, QC. Merton and Melva settled in Bristol for
a few years as it was close to Merton’s work in Hilton Mines. Melva kept
herself busy working as a nurse at the Pontiac Community Hospital and later was promoted to Superintendent. In
1974 the couple moved to Beachburg, ON where Melva continued her nursing in the community with V.O.N for
11years before retiring.. Merton made a career change at this point and worked in Pettawawa as a Stationary engi-
neer on the base.
It wasn’t until 2006 that Merton and Melva moved to Carleton Place to be closer to their 2 daughters and 2
grandchildren. Thank you Melva and Merton for making everyone’s day great with all your help at the Waterside.

The Wheels On The Bus Go Round and Round...

Friends of Sport Fishing boat at the Carleton Place Town docks for a beautiful boat cruise up the Mississippi
River to the Mississippi Lake. For some, this was their first time on a boat and for many the first time on the
Mississippi Lake. After cruising the shore line for a few hours our Captain Tom docked the boat at the Lake
Park Lodge for lunch. What a spectacular day enjoyed be all!
