Egg Drop Lab Report

Background:
What is this experiment about? Creating a carrier for an egg that can support the egg
enough for it not to crack.
Specific Terminology

Velocity- the speed of something in a specific direction.

Prerequisite knowledge

The stronger the more support the more of an outcome of it

not cracking.

Hypothesis:

If I complete my carrier with all the requirements filled and in the time alloted, my
egg will not be cracked.

Independent Variable
(Factor being manipulated)

The weight of the carrier and the structure you choosed.

Dependent Variable
(Factor being measured)

The height your carrier could reach without breaking the egg.

Constant(s)
(Controlled variables)

The velocity of the carrier being dropped. The height of the

carrier being dropped.

If (Independent)

Then (Dependent)

Because (Theory)

The weight meets

requirments...

the egg will not break when

dropped from any height...

when the requirements are

met and filled in the time
alloted, your egg will not
break.

Materials:

Straws
Duct Tape
Egg

Pipe Cleaners
Rubber Bands
Scissors

Procedure:

1. Design the carrier you will make.

2. Construct the carrier.
3. Impound the carrier on time.
4. Participate in the dropping of the carriers

Results:

Results are stated in the data table below.

DATA TABLE:

This was the best design with the egg protected from all angles.
i. Shown in the results above,
the highest ranking had 5 student make it to the extra credit round. The
structure of the carriers that made it to the final round were constructed in
a cubic structure. The cubic structure made it so the egg was more
proctected and had more ability to give way. My structure did not have a
cubic straw structure around it so the egg was impacted with to much
force causing it to break right away.

Conclusion:
Restate your hypothesis

If I complete my carrier with all the

requirements filled and in the time alloted, my
carrier will hold the egg.

Did your data support your hypothesis?

No it did not.

How or Why/Why not?

The hypothesis I created did not support the

data. The structure of the carrier decided
more on the egg cracking or breaking
compared to the requirements.

What is your level of certainty in your data?

Are there errors or randomness?

The data collected can be off because it does

not include the wind that was different for
each students drop.

Further Inquiry:
If you were to conduct this
experiment again, what would
you do differently to increase the
certainty of your results?

I would make sure the wind was the same speed for all
the drops, or do the experiment inside so there would be
no wind.

Give a specific example of a field

or technology that could use this
information.

You could use the carriers in the feilds like space when
they have to land the carrier on a hard surface.

Give one new question or

problem that you could now
identify from what you learned in
this investigation.

The structure of the carrier depended on the amound of

straws the proctection you used for the egg. The more
leeway the more space for the egg no to touch the
ground.
