7. Draw the circuit diagram of capacitor start-capacitor run motor.
8. What are the applications of shaded pole motor?
9. How do you reverse the direction of rotation of 1-phase split phase induction motor?
10. State any four applications of a stepper motor.
PART-B
Answer any five questions and each carries ten marks
11. Explain the production of rotating magnetic field in 3-phase synchronous motor with
wave forms and phasor diagrams.
12.(a) A 80 Kw,600 V ,1200 rpm ,3-phase star connected synchronous motor has an
armature resistance of 0.05 ohms per phase and a leakage reactance of 0.6 ohms per phase at
rated load and 0.8 p.f leading .Determine the induced armature emf per phase.
(b)Explain how a synchronous motor can be used as synchronous condenser.
13. A 100 Kw, 3.3Kv, 50Hz, 3-phase star connected induction motor has a synchronous
speed of 500 rpm. The full load slip is 1.8% and full load p.f 0.85 lag. Stator copper loss is
2400 w and iron loss is 3500 w. Rotational loss is 1200 w. Calculate (i) The rotor copper loss
(ii) line current (iii) full load efficiency.
14. What are the different methods of speed control of 3- phase induction motor? .Explain
cascade method of speed control of 3-phase induction motor.
