Proposal for my rock magazine

Magazine title: Demise

Why I chose a rock magazine
I have chosen to do a rock magazine. This is because I feel there is a gap
in the market for a rock magazine aimed at teenage-young adult females.
Also, from the feedback of my focus group I have found most of my target
audience would prefer a rock magazine out of the 3 because it is more
linked to their interests and they find it more interesting to pop. Also, rock
is easiest to define out of the 3 and has specific codes and conventions
(for example; colour scheme being red and black) and it is also easy to
get both male and female models to pose for my main image. I have also
chosen to do a rock magazine because it is becoming increasingly popular
recently and I feel it would be the most likely to be published out of all 3
genres due to the increasing demand for rock music and because there is
a lot of content that the target audience would read about and by the
magazine for (e.g. concerts, festivals, posters, competitions, etc.). I have
also chosen to produce a rock magazine due to the niche market of
females and because it is easy to create original ideas that are eye
catching and appeal to the target audience. It would also be higher
quality and lower cost that the other magazines as I can produce the
main image using my surroundings and a couple of props. Also, there is
not a huge amount of competition for rock as there is for pop therefore, it
is most likely to be published and create branding and a reputation. As
well as this, my target audience are also my generation of my gender so I
know their interests and how to appeal to them and grab their attention. I
am also interested in the softer rock so I know how to portray models in
this way and I would be able to create a magazine to suit my primary
target audience. Another reason I have chosen the genre of rock for my
magazine is because I am able to manipulate stereotypes (for example; I
can make women appear powerful and dominant), I am able to do this
because of the stereotypes linked to rock music as well as the audiences
views of rock bands being both male and female orientated.

Target audience:

Gender: Females
Age: 16-20
Social class: Working middle class
Lifestyle, hobbies and interests: Sociable, interested in concerts and
surrounded by music, confident and outgoing personality, interested in
shopping and has a unique fashion style to match their personality (e.g.
beanies, skirts and boots, fun hair colours). They have a semi busy
lifestyle because they are still in education or part time work. They
wouldnt read a lot unless its about music. They have piercings but have
a lovely fun-loving personality.
